My Firefox addon got approved! It ensures i.imgur.com, preview.redd.it, i.reddit.com and media.tumblr.com actually send you an image when visiting links instead of redirecting to a page with a bunch of proprietary javascript!

Fucking JPEG – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US)

Download Fucking JPEG for Firefox. This addon makes sure you only get the image on Reddit/imgur/Tumblr media pages. "Just give me the fucking JPEG!"

@pendell @adamhotep version 1.5 just released and supports tumblr media URLs
@dwarf what a colourful name
@dwarf tfw you're Developer, and not Dwarfeloper
@flandrescarlet was getting annoyed with the redirects which may have influenced the addon name
@dwarf oh thank the gods that this exists
@dwarf oh thank you, imgur never fucking worked for me for no good reason, so this is a great thing to have
@dwarf oh this is fantastic ❤️
@dwarf btw I assume you know this already but I can confirm that it works on mobile Firefox too
@0x2ba22e11 thanks for checking! I was a little cheeky and checked the "works on mobile" box, so I'm glad that it actually does!

@dwarf ah cool. For what it's worth I wasn't checking to be helpful, I was checking because I wanted to use it on mobile ;)

but mentioning that it does work on mobile, that was intended to be helpful ❤️😄

@dwarf holy fuck thank you
@dwarf Fucking direct links!

@dwarf

Thank you very much. I won't be going back to reddit or imgur but its a step forward.

@dwarf IMMEDIATELY added to my browser upon reading this toot. Didn't even wait. didn't even check the reviews. didn't need to. i just know i goddamn NEED this extension.
@dwarf

hmm you know when you right click on an image on reddit then open image in new tab - and it loads a whole ass web page instead of just a png?

does your addon help with that? can it help with that?
@m not sure, I don't use reddit myself. I made this because people kept linking me i.reddit.com/*.jpeg links and it would send me to a webpage instead.
@dwarf
m, just installed it and doesnt work. :(
@m that's a bummer. Does it link to i.reddit.com at all? Or does it stay on the reddit website?
@dwarf it goes to preview.reddit.com then to reddit.com for me
@dwarf

found a thing that does what I need:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/load-reddit-images-directly/

you might find it useful also
Load Reddit Images Directly – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US)

Download Load Reddit Images Directly for Firefox. Loads reddit images directly instead of redirecting to the HTML page containing the image. This works for i.redd.it, preview.redd.it, external-preview.redd.it and www.reddit.com/media urls.

@m version 1.7 of my addon added preview.redd.it
@dwarf
Extra points for the name style.
@dwarf can't download on librewolf
@goowose odd, I'm actually using Librewolf too. What version are you using?
@dwarf 135.0.1-1 but it's all good i manually downloaded the addon file
@dwarf life saver ! fucking thank you

@dwarf Nice! Could you add support for Tumblr?

Here's a sample URL:
https://64.media.tumblr.com/d3892097c6d3a7b7e57cdab0229b1426/5a2fa0abdba716ed-a1/s1280x1920/9921679970771abf214ad0c1fefdb6a9ed6db03c.jpg

Also, do you have a code repository for this? I know the code is trivially small, but it couldn't hurt to have it up somewhere with a proper license (I suggest GPL or Apache License).

@adamhotep I currently have no git forge, I'll look into one this weekend. I hope the same trick works for tumblr in which case I'll be sure to add it
@dwarf @cnx https://codeberg.org is the most freedom-respecting code forge I know of
Codeberg.org

Codeberg is a non-profit community-led organization that aims to help free and open source projects prosper by giving them a safe and friendly home.

Codeberg.org
@dwarf gosh, can you also make it do Tumblr and Pinterest? 😂
@dwarf thank you so much i knew this was possible i just couldn't be bothered writing the extension (i'm assuming it just changes the Accept header)
@dwarf Yay! I could use this a lot.
@dwarf
This is nice. Do one for chrome/chromium browsers next :)
@dwarf Thank you for making this!
@dwarf I didn't know the
Firefox Add-On store has an "Experimental" flag
@dwarf nice, I made one of these too but never bothered trying to upload it to the addon store

License: All Rights Reserved

@dwarf

@[email protected] until I find a freedom respecting git forge I cannot release it under a valid license
Thou dothn't need a git forge for that, @dwarf, the code is already available in the XPI archive (basically ZIP with some special files in it) on the linked page. Just declare the license in the source file and put its text in the archive.
@[email protected] version 1.5 has been released under GPL v3
@dwarf thank you king/queen/preferred title suggesting an omnipresent force
