Pretty cool that the same people who told us 2 years ago that native apps are dead, let's do everything via the web are now telling us actually the web is dead too, let's do everything via an LLM

Letter to Arc members 2025

On Arc, its future, and the arrival of AI browsers — a moment to answer the largest questions you've asked us this past year.

Keeping Tabs by The Browser Company
Perfect example for why there's no way to build good software with venture capital - no matter how great the team and their intentions, the need for exponential growth means the product will eventually either be enshittified or shut down.
@tbernard They are explicitly saying: "But the Web isn’t going anywhere..." and "... webpages won’t be replaced — they’ll remain essential".
@tbernard capitalism in 5 years: “Actually LLMs are dead now too, let's all eat shit together”
@fantinel @tbernard I like this quote from the letter: "But we’re confident about this: five years from now, the most-used AI interfaces on desktop will replace the default browsers of yesteryear." lol

@tbernard I read through the entire blog post but I have no idea what they're trying to say. "We should've stopped building Arc a year ago" but then "We still wanna develop Arc" and then "Today's browsers will fail because AI" but then "Web pages will remain essential alongside AI".

After all that, the shiny new disruptive "Internet Computer" browser is... Chrome with ChatGPT in the new tab page? Am I missing something?

@tbernard it's sad, Arc was my favorite browser with the amount of design craft and fun it had, but venture capital new-thing-chasing is a thing sadly
@wallaby We need something like killed by Google but for VC. Should be a crime to just destroy something so well-crafted.
@wallaby Try zen ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
