❓What happens when a platform refuses to let science do its job?

Our EU-funded project BIG-5, hosted at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and the UAB, investigates how social media platforms shape environmental values.

We requested data from X (formerly Twitter) under Article 40(12) of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), a framework meant to enable research on systemic risks.

❌ Our request was denied.

This isn’t just a bureaucratic delay, it actively blocks public-interest science.

✅ Meta, TikTok, and YouTube have already granted access.

❌ X’s refusal undermines cross-platform accountability and the DSA’s promise.

We’re sharing this to raise awareness and invite dialogue.

🔍 Who decides what counts as systemic risk? What enforcement exists when platforms reject the DSA’s goals?
