Apparently the White House is assessing ways to “persuade” women ti have more children.

I can save them a ton of time and energy:

Universal healthcare

Universal basic income

Childcare & paid time off

Education

clean air & water

Affordable housing

Legalized abortion

Address climate change

Stop Being Fascists

It’s really not that hard.

#uspol #fascism #birthrate #pregnancy #abortion #MyBodyMyChoice

Also, if your country allows this to happen to a pregnant woman after she’s been declared brain dead, there’s good reason your birth rate is declining.

The cruel forced birth policies of states with abortion bans have led to Adriana Smith being made into an incubator, without the consent of next of kin:

https://www.disabledginger.com/p/adriana-smith-misogyny-and-the-cruelty

Adriana Smith, Misogyny and the Cruelty of Forced Birth

Adriana Smith couldn't access competent medical care when she needed it, and it killed her. Now the hospital is forcing 'care' on her by keeping her alive as an incubator due to Georgia's abortion ban

The Disabled Ginger
@broadwaybabyto Christo-Fascists hate women. Christo-Fascists really hate black women.
@Fat_Farang @broadwaybabyto Christo-Fascists really REALLY hate the truth that Jesus was dark-skinned and Middle-Eastern.
@broadwaybabyto When this started and someone told me about it, I asked if the woman in question was black. I was thoroughly unsurprised to hear she is. This is a continuation of a pattern that the US has been displaying for a long time, the callous lack of disregard for black women's rights to control over their own bodies is one of the main driving forces behind the US campaign against bodily autonomy. A vestige of chattel slavery culture, showing it's very much still alive in the modern day.

@GLaDTheresCake same. I wish I was surprised, but I wasn’t. When I was researching the article i read stats on how many more black women die in pregnancy, as well as how much higher their infant mortality rate is.

It’s awful, and the fact that she was a healthcare worker still couldn’t access the care she needed makes it feel so much worse

@broadwaybabyto I want to add one thing, since we are talking about the USA: do something effective against all those mass shootings in schools

@PurpleShadow And malls. And festivals. And and and...

@broadwaybabyto

@PurpleShadow @broadwaybabyto Something effective? Take the guns away, not books!
@broadwaybabyto but it's so much easier (and cheaper) for the government to just remove any means of NOT having children
- no birth control
- no abortion
And bam, you have sex, and are likely going to have more children
Like it or not, the GOP way.
@Joy_intl @broadwaybabyto - or, let's be real, much more likely under a Conservative™️ system, bam you're raped & now you're pregnant.
@jwcph yep.. hadn't even thought about that.. @broadwaybabyto

@broadwaybabyto

Is employment precarity the real leading cause of abortion?

Billionaires built an economy based on the underpaid & unpaid labor of women, immigrants, and black & brown voters; they own the outcome.

Why is Fertility Collapsing, Globally?

Something dramatic is happening everywhere all at once: fertility is plummeting, with major implications for economic growth and social stability.

@broadwaybabyto more likely they’ll come up with something handmaidstaley than humanrightsy.

@broadwaybabyto You may not be right. Sometimes microblogging is not enough, so my wordy response here:

How (not) to have more children as a nation

This is a response to a . First, I want to quickly remind what the difference between a fact and an opinion is: A fact is a (often quantitative) reflec...

Derrial Book says
@broadwaybabyto Forcing women to carry any pregnancy is certainly not the way.
@broadwaybabyto @DelilahTech Perhaps stop nudging the world closer to nuclear armageddon would be a good idea as well? 🤔
@broadwaybabyto they don’t want children, they want cheap labour.
The cheap part is the most important part.
@broadwaybabyto While I'd be delighted to see all of those things, I thought the usual pattern was that people tend to have fewer children as their material standard of living and level of social security improve?
@broadwaybabyto renote, and forward to the Italian Government
@broadwaybabyto I would also add paid time off for all parents. A few of my friends are going through the fact that the dad has much fewer days they can take off work compared to the mom, and that's all kinds of troublesome.

@broadwaybabyto

Countries with leave policies, health insurance, and more social support are also failing to raise their birth rates. What is improving birth rates is when the partner takes on more housework. Your list makes chore-sharing do-able, but men have to be able to choose to be more involved at home. Cultures that provide superficial support but still punish men for pitching in are not seeing the improvements promised by their policies.

@broadwaybabyto In short, build a future that people will want to live for.
@broadwaybabyto "No. No. That can't be it. How about a Motherhood Medal for women bearing six or more children?"
@broadwaybabyto How dare you suggest such brazen and radical thoughts

@broadwaybabyto

All the best. None of these are getting passed. 😂

@broadwaybabyto the interesting thing is, unlike so many of their other horseshit policies, it seems to be genuine.

Trickle down economics is wink wink nudge horseshit - those in the know understand it's a plausible facade for looting by now.

But they genuinely think people will give birth under economic exploitation. There's no 'haha the poors believe us' here, this is what it looks like when the right and the mainstream genuinely tries to fix a problem they care about.

@BoysenberryCider what they care about is there being a lot of white fascist babies. They don’t care what world those babies inherit.

The interesting thing right now Japan is having a population shortage crisis. It’s not drawing many people to immigrate there nor are Japanese feeling wealthy enough to marry or have families. The population is reducing swift & steady.
They are trying things, most seem to miss the mark imo.

@JoBlakely Asia in general is a perfect example. Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and China have even lower birthrates than the West, despite having: conservative cultures, strong belief in families, 'pro-natal attitudes', government subsidies for giving birth, and strong attitudes against abortion.

So obviously those things aren't the key. The thing they share with us are economic policies and terrible wage/housing price ratios. But try getting anyone in a suit to see the elephant in the room.

@broadwaybabyto The planet does not have a shortage of humans.

Complaints about falling birth rates are really about the falling birth rates of white teenage girls.

@mekkaokereke has laid out the receipts.

Attached: 1 image Again for people (racists), complaining about falling birth rates: The birth rate for women over 40 is not falling. The birth rate for women over 30 is not falling. What's happening, is girls 15 to 17 are having fewer babies. Kids are having fewer kids. Also, this is an interesting way of saying that "Teen pregnancy is down, due to sex education and contraception." In 1991 25% of 15 year olds gave birth before they turned 21. That's bad. Now it's 6%. That's better. https://npr.org/2023/01/08/1147737247/teen-pregnancy-rates-have-declined-significantly

@peterdrake @broadwaybabyto @mekkaokereke ...bingo...."we", as in the world's populated countries/regions, have plenty of people....falling birthrates in developed countries, reflecting many different causes (cost of care/world on fire/can't be bothered!), are easily countered - and a boon to economic growth! - with careful planning and necessary controls. Cultural & racist barriers block the obvious solution....

@broadwaybabyto Right? People that want to have children just *can't* right now. It's not a matter of wanting, that's not the problem.

Do *anything* that people have been asking for, for generations, to advance the cause of humanity and humanity will fill the gaps as needed.

They can't expect humanity to respond positively to anti-human political and economic policy.

@broadwaybabyto Also, in a world of finite resources, and a limited ability to withstand the impact of human occupation, why exactly do we want to stretch them across more people?

The White House wants white babies. Some of those programs could inadvertently help people of color and we can't have that.

@broadwaybabyto

@broadwaybabyto May I add more? Rebuilding the social safety net, making things like housing (ESPECIALLY housing) cost less, raising the minimum wage, encouraging immigration*, and making life not shit.

also to be fair stuff like addressing climate change is in fact that hard. but most of it isn't.

*assuming the issue is to keep the population growing. as a bonus, immigrants are generally of working age already and have slightly more kids than US-born americans. see https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/issues/2024/3/22/us-demographic-projections-with-and-without-immigration

@broadwaybabyto Ah, but your assumption is two fold. First that they can read. Second, that they don't hate women

@broadwaybabyto I will believe that the White House really wants women to have children when they present a woman who has had five children but has never married as a national hero.

(Hint: If she's raising five children without a husband... she IS a hero.)

@broadwaybabyto Even countries that offer that don't have higher fertility. Doesn't mean it's not worth having, but it doesn't lead to that.

@broadwaybabyto well, the Scandinavian countries do a lot of that and their birthrate is abominable. I agree with the ask, but birthrates aren't so straightforward.
