In my quest to find a Todoist replacement that doesn't send everything to US cloud providers, I've discovered two Canadian, and two Indian apps.

They're using AWS and/or GCP though, so I've asked them where, specifically, the data is stored. Not ideal though, since it's still controlled by American companies.

I'm going to have to make one, aren't I. 😩

#buycanadian #elbowsup #todoist #todo #tasks #tasklist

GoToDo support claims their data is stored in India.

@Taffer

If you want an European one I can recommend todo2d.com, although it's a bit different (the goal is to always be working on a task, not collecting reminders).

And yes, I'm the creator. And everything is hosted on a Dutch (NL) server owned by a German (DE) company.

@DevWouter I’ll check it out, thanks!

@Taffer

Cool! Let me know if you have any feedback, I do take it into account (the tutorial was created due to someone else asking about it).

@Taffer are there no self hosted ones you like?
@emd I haven’t seen one yet; I sort of hate web apps, and I need something that runs on my phone as well as my laptop.

@Taffer darn.

I know self-hosting isn't for everyone, but I bet there's several Laravel ones, every dev builds a Laravel to do app, lol

@emd @Taffer or use PHPNative to make it an app
@kboyd @emd @Taffer Thought about this. Down to time or lack of.
@kboyd @Taffer oh I was looking for something to build with that…bought a Mobile license a few weeks ago

@emd @Taffer $50/year ... that's really tempting, but I'm very much in a cost-cutting phase right now. I'm even letting domains expire! 😱

Edit: and 250/yr sounds like a screaming deal since the renewal would be at that rate ... but no, I can't. I'm not making enough from my hobby efforts.

@Taffer Todo task managers are a pain to find one that works with our own unique brains. Currently using TickTick. Things looks interesting, but as you say, USA hosting. Took a Quick Look at todo2d.com, but I need app based first.
@outofcontrol same; Todoist or Remember the Milk would be fine, but US
@Taffer I’d pay the same for the app, or even a small amount extra, to be able to choose my own storage location in these apps.

@outofcontrol if I end working on my own, it’s going to support a variety of storage options, and full e2e encryption

All I need is UBI or a winning lottery ticket πŸ˜…

@Taffer If I win the lottery first we can work on it together.
@outofcontrol @Taffer I’m looking for something to noodle on, maybe I’ll start one.
@outofcontrol @Taffer maybe https://vikunja.io then use NativePHP mobile to build the app?
Vikunja: The task manager you actually own

Vikunja is open-source task management you can self-host. Lists, Kanban, Gantt, and more β€” on your server or ours. Made and hosted in the EU.

@emd @outofcontrol I think I tried that one, but can’t remember what I didn’t like.

I really just want Todoist or Remember the Milk, but outside the US.

@Taffer could you use obsidian/logseq as a todoist replacement, via the plugins?
@kboyd I did start mucking around with the Obsidian Tasks plugin, it’s probably doable; need time to write a Todoist exporter though
@Taffer Any.do looks interesting, not USA devs but AWS data store and developed in Israel
