The real IT global collapse won’t be caused by, say, replicants nuking corpo servers. It will be caused by a little syntax error in AI-generated code that no human will still have the ability and knowledge to identify.

Except maybe Bert, the local old programmer made redundant and who still lives in the corpo basement. But Bert is a wise sad punk and will pretend to know nothing. Thanks Bert.
@bitzero
I have a recurring dream where it's caused by SpaceX boosters experiencing "technical difficulties" and falling from the sky with pinpoint accuracy onto Google and Meta data centers, and all the billionaire tech bros get into a big slap fight.

@BlippyTheWonderSlug @bitzero Alas, its more likely that Bert has landed up in the care home with Alzheimers, and genuinely cannot not even remember how to fix the code anyway.

I worked on the maintenance team of a senior care home and have seen this happen at first hand, one of our patients used to code ALGOL (in 1970s) at a large engineering company in Suffolk that made huge cranes for dockside operation. he could barely speak but managed to remember is the name of the computer language - I managed to track down a picture of the mainframe he worked on and gave it to him, he smiled and seemed to recognise it but there was 0 way he would have had capacity to remember any of the code he worked on (which would also have been kept secure BITD due to intellectual property rights)

@vfrmedia @BlippyTheWonderSlug @bitzero that's cute af and I'm glad he smiled
@bitzero easy! just roll it back to the earliest stable release and refix the worst bugs and
