I've been away from Mastodon for a bit, just really having a hard time as a fed employee and scientist trying to hang on to whatever we have left. For anyone who needs something peaceful right now, here's a sunset on the wilderness coast of Washington.

@ncgleason You’re looking after the only part of your country I’d ever wanted to visit. Salmon waters, forests nurturing large rivers. Freshwater feeding estuaries, feeding inshore waters, feeding the vastness and complexity of the ocean we share.
@JamesAshburnerCBR I was born and raised here, formed my passion and profession around this place and protecting it. If you haven't been here yet, I hope you can make a trip to see as much of the Pacific Northwest as possible! Sometimes I can't believe my great fortune of being born into this place.
@ncgleason My 2014 Canadian trip was the nearest ever I have been to the USA, or Europe. No realistic possibility of salmon fishing—Salmo salar!—in Nova Scotia, either. But I [accidentally] saw my Grannie’s childhood home area on the first full day in NS, after walking on an Atlantic beach.
I’m a transplanted saltwater Victorian, living in NSW’s freshwater highlands. Here the Antarctic great whale migration pathway is <200 km due east.
