I pay for news both across mainstream media and on sites like ghost. I subscribe to two dozen magazines and nearly twice as many newsletters. With few exceptions (<cough> WaPo) I am happy to pay for content
That said, @GiftArticles is one of my favorite Mastodon accounts, and I'm surprised by how few followers it has
I follow it not for the free content, but rather because it serves as a curated newsfeed for what other people find worth sharing

I'm sure they're amazing. But it's an account that's mimicked from Twitter. They're not even really here.
@FranceskaMann @GiftArticles @kims fwiw, it's grabbing links from a Bluesky feed, not twitter.
But, the way I use it is I mute it from my home timeline and then when I'm browsing the mastodon trending/explore page I can click on a trending article and for any news site I'm not subscribed there's almost always a GiftArticle post if you scroll through the users talking about it.
My point remains valid. They're not even here.
