Tesla Owners are Installing DIY Rip Cords to Avoid Being Trapped in Their Vehicles in Case of Fire

Tesla owners have started doing something wild... installing DIY emergency escape rip cords inside their vehicles so their passengers don’t get trapped if the car catches fire. That’s not a joke. That’s just how badly the doors are designed. Here's why: Tesla doors are entirely electronic. When you want to get out, you hit a

@jalefkowit may i gently propose building a massive, halo-esque, superstructure mode trebuchet? :D

@jalefkowit
I wonder how a car with this many design flaws, failures, and absolutely boneheaded decisions managed to not only make it past the first 4 stages of review, but past any other reviewer, and is somehow road legal.
@jalefkowit J So Many organizations are now denied federal funding critical to science, education, women, children, healthcare, food & nutrition, etc. Please Sell #cybertrucks + all #tesla and take time to think about how best to spend your #money and use your hard earned #credit when you buy, and from whom. Hard times are hear. No tears for #maga.
@jalefkowit Sadly, even these hilarious and useful tags will not work on those Teslas that _don't even have_ the hidden manual release in the back seat.
@jalefkowit @tadbithuman It’s not just fires. One of our neighboring billionaires drunk-drove her Tesla into a pond on her ranch in my town. The electronics apparently shorted out. Despite half a dozen people trying to free her, the doors wouldn’t budge, and she drowned. https://apnews.com/article/angela-chao-dies-mitch-mcconnell-03f040a0ca93396a8adebc293d94f98e
Angela Chao was intoxicated during fatal car accident, police say

Angela Chao, a shipping industry CEO and sister-in-law to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, was intoxicated when she drove into a pond and died last month in Texas. That's according to a law enforcement report released Wednesday. The investigation by the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office concluded that Chao’s death was an “unfortunate accident.” The 50-year-old died the night of Feb. 10 after having dinner at a ranch in Johnson City. That's located west of Austin. The report describes a frantic scene as friends and deputies tried to pull Chao from her Tesla after she backed it into the water.

@jalefkowit How in Sam Hill does this meet any kind of safety standard rolling off the lots like this? It's as if this was designed to purposely kill people. Imagine that! Ralph Nader would have had a field day with this.....back in the day when things like prevention mattered and $$$ was not GOD. Nefarious Engineering Design at best .....

@jalefkowit
The article says:

> Tesla doors are entirely electronic

This is false. All doors front and back in at least both Tesla 3 and Y models that I have seen had manual door release:

People are doing all sorts of weird things, but they should really RTFM 😅

@Mehrad @jalefkowit So every passenger should be required to read the manual before entering a Tesla then?

@jernej__s
Did you even read my post? Read it again, and if you still didn't get the point, keep reading until you get it.

To make it crystal clear: one should be a fool to damage a car and install an "emergency exit" if/when the car already have one! If it doesn't, then sure, install one; but when it does, reading the manual costs less.

@jernej__s
This is slightly off-topic, but now I'm curious: Are you as a passenger feel comfortable and welcome to modify the car before you get in (e.g. install the manual door release)? What if you don't own the car?
@jalefkowit I have two elderly relatives with one of these cars, so thanks for letting me know I need to at least get emergency labels for the releases it apparently does have.
