The #PirateBay founders must be looking at the arguments from #OpenAI and #Meta on why they should be allowed to ignore copyright and authorship laws with a certain level of astonishment.
@jwildeboer How much money have OpenAI and Meta funneled into Congress? And how much money did Pirate Bay funnel into Congress?
@obot50549535 @jwildeboer do we have data on how much media congress members downloaded from the PirateBay? Then we could do the math, based on the amounts teenagers were sued for single mp3 files..
@jwildeboer They are not astonished. They know full well that they were sentenced for political reasons.

@jwildeboer I think about this a lot

RIAA would like sue grandmas for $100,000 for torrenting 2 Murder She Wrote episodes

But sure, illegally downloading all the books and music online is totally legit

@peterbutler @jwildeboer

Some techbros knew the meme:

“If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class”,

and went:

“But if we buy those who enforce the law, there won’t be any fines for our crimes”.

@avuko @peterbutler @jwildeboer

If you are "too big to fail" (banks, bigtech ....whatever) you get fines only.

@jwildeboer
Yes. And Hanoverfist Software. #Commodore software for backup purposes ONLY. $6 each or 3 for $11.
@jwildeboer i imagine lars from metallica getting a serious prolapse when he hears this news
@jwildeboer And the PB folks didn't even engage in plagiarism
@jwildeboer unlike Pirate Bay, AI ‘steals’ for the rich and powerful at the expense of copyright holders. Rules only apply when it serves the capitalist class.
@jwildeboer I have always been opposed to any kind of "intellectual property". Let the AI developers train their machine learning models on any data that's available, but make it so that their AI models aren't their I.P. either, any ML models belong in the public domain. And also everything generated by such a model.

@jwildeboer This is the greatest heist in history. Proves that the more you have, the more you can get away with.
@jwildeboer It's absolutely crazy. If your business concept doesn't work out without large scale theft, you don't have a business concept.
I can't just steal a stack of laptops at Mediamarkt, sell them on the street and call that my business model and that I must be exempt from burglary laws or my company will fail.
@jwildeboer He didn't go to prison. Took 4 years to successfully appeal and only then did his career resume.
@jwildeboer all they needed was get billions in investments round and charge customers $200 a month for the privilege of getting access to torrents.
@jwildeboer Reminds me of the quote:
If buying is not owning, piracy is not theft.
@jwildeboer next may 30th there is an OpenChain webminar where a researcher will describe his findings on this matter related to open source software.
@jwildeboer
might be, but astonishment fades away rather quickly in this sort of domain or matter..
@jwildeboer The only moral piracy is my piracy!
