It's a bummer that there is a whole IMAP/SMTP setting in GOA, but no GTK4 application consumes it!
Waffel@pojntfx Never heard of GOA... though I use #Gnome. Just searched for it... "Gnome Online Accounts" doesn't sound like something I want or miss. 🤷
Anyway, with mail clients I am "stuck" with #Thunderbird anyway, 'cause it's the only client I know that handles identities the way I want:
If I have my own domain like mydomain.com and so I do enter my email addresses at services like "random123@mydomain.com" I can easily send and reply with that sender without having to setup a whole account. Win.

Pre-alpha stuff though, not necessarily going to materialize. But folks are working on it
@AdrianVovk I tried this yesterday, it's quite nice UI-wise, but yes very early-stage!
@AdrianVovk Honestly it sounds like one of those "I wish I could just pay someone to work on it, so many people would benefit but I can't work on it myself" kind of issues ...

@deobald @pojntfx Technically it can be. Just need someone to work on it... And the maintainer has little interest because the other project exists

Email clients are a special kind of hell to maintain, and since historically they all use custom widgets (whether HTML rendering or GTK) with ludicrous scalability/performance requirements, they are very vulnerable to devhell on any major new toolkit releases…

Jubei@pojntfx I am unfamiliar with "GOA". I imagine it's some kind of persistent dictionary which stores your mail/calendar/notes account providers etc? If the only limitation to thunderbird is that, then why not fund somebody writing a fork of Thunderbird which *does* support GOA? (Personally I don't use Thunderbird, I use web clients but I am trying to transition). You could even try to add the functionality yourself?

Or, maybe we can convince @ryanleesipes to reprioritize it. :)
