Israel may change tack to allow aid groups in Gaza to stay in charge of non-food aid
Israel appears to be changing tack as pressure mounts to get more aid into Gaza, and may let aid groups operating in the battered enclave take charge of non-food assistance. Thatβs according to a letter obtained by The Associated Press saying food distribution would be left up to a newly established group, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which is backed by the U.S. and Israel but is not yet up and running in the enclave. Israel accuses Hamas of siphoning off aid but the United Nations and aid groups deny there is significant diversion. There was no immediate comment from Israeli officials on the letter.
