Not often that my home village gets mentioned in the news. A rainy bank holiday weekend means the annual Well Dressing Festival, this year being the 181st. When I was a kid the most exciting part was the funfair, which back then had a few arcade machines as well as the rides, something I didn't get to play too often.

It's a few years since I last went—moving out of the county does create an obstacle—but I'm glad to see that the event continues. Well Dressing Queen, maypole dancing, and all the other odd traditions.
