“This book will be profoundly uncomfortable to read. It was profoundly uncomfortable to write. It tells the story of IBM's conscious involvement—directly and through its subsidiaries—in the Holocaust, as well as its involvement in the Nazi war machine that murdered millions of others throughout Europe.

Only through exposing and examining what really occurred can the world of technology finally adopt the well-worn motto: Never Again.”

IBM and the Holocaust

@GossiTheDog
> Only through exposing and examining what really occurred (…)

Is it rich, racist, white cunt-levels being anywhere near polite society? \s

@GossiTheDog I always thought that this was well-known - just like The New York Times' whitewashing of Stalin's regime.
@bontchev @GossiTheDog I think what's not well known is just how deeply and knowingly involved IBM was, and the implications in terms of deaths.

@bontchev @GossiTheDog Maybe well known but not well learned

#Nokia helped to build mass-surveillance system: https://www.upguard.com/breaches/mts-nokia-telecom-inventory-data-exposure

#Visa and #MasterCard banned all people of my country from bying/selling anything worldwide before any sanctions. Is it helped to stop anything? As we see after 3 years – no, it isn't.

Is it locked most of people inside the mass #surveillance #censorship and #propaganda systems bc they can't simply buy VPS in Europe to avoid all these shit. Definitely YES!

Telecommunications Breakdown: How Russian Telco Infrastructure was Exposed | UpGuard

A storage device containing 1.7 terabytes of information detailing telecommunications installations throughout the Russian Federation was exposed to the public internet.

@GossiTheDog you mean the moto "make them do it again"?

@GossiTheDog

Edwin Black's books on how American corporations abetted the Hitler regime are haunting because they are doing it again.

The tale of Standard Oil is disgraceful.

@GossiTheDog I can understand why this book - also on my bookshelve - comes up here after some 25 yrs.
Please make yourself also familiar with what is written ABOUT this book, eg in historical bookreviews, etc.
And please check the Auschwitz-Birkenau statement on the book: https://www.auschwitz.org/en/museum/news/ibm-i-n-auschwitz-concentration-camp-no-hollerith-machines-at-auschwitz-concentration-camp,259.html
@GossiTheDog Wow. I knew about IBM's role in the census, for tracking down Jewish victims. I didn't know how much further their role extended. What an incredible piece of research.

@GossiTheDog I found it unreadably emotive; Black can't just let the story tell itself, he has to breathlessly express his shock that Dahomag execs ate BREAKFAST ... just like the NAZIS!!1!

Granted, we clearly have a few generations of Americans who have to be reminded that the Nazis were the Bad Guys so maybe the book needs to written the way it is.

Read it if you can; I can't get past the garment-rending prose. It seems to be the primary book on the subject so you're SOL if you were expecting it to portray the banality of evil vs comic book Nazis.

@GossiTheDog @deborahh Waiting for the sequel: Artificial Intelligence and the Project 2025 for Supreme White Christian Nationalist Global Fascist Theocracy funded by Citizens United.
