@engineeringstephen it's raining and I crashed into a parked car riding home drunk last night and slept most of the evening where I landed, before going home then staggering in this morning to deal with a bunch of people whining that one of the VAXstations got turned off yesterday by someone looking for a light switch and now their batch jobs which had been running for 6 weeks all have to be restarted, and did they write 2 extra minutes of code to save their state? Noooo course they didn't. So now they all hate me even though as I said, I was drunk and it looked like a light switch, so it was hardly my fault... And I blamed the cleaners anyway. I need another jug of coffee and 3 hours at the Fenton for dinner. Anyone coming or am I on my own?

Aaah I could get back into this 80s life! 😁
@lorry @engineeringstephen We actually did have the cleaner turn off our server (some years later than this) because she unplugged it. Must be lovely to have such little brain.
(Also, how the fuck did you crash into *parked* cars???)
@Janeishly @engineeringstephen Oh both of these are true, they just happened at different places at different times.
The VaxStations were at Leeds University, and the Epidemiologists knew they weren't meant to run their jobs on them, but they were faster than the mini so they'd risk it sometimes. But the room safety switch was right next to the damned light switch - And you know, idiots kept accidentally setting fire to their keyboards so that didn't help.
I used to cycle back from my job at Leicester Royal Infirmary to my house a couple of miles away and I was usually not sober at the time. Now I wasn't completely mad, and I'd plotted a path back that was mostly over waste-land (lots then!) and little alley ways - So at 3am I never ever saw a driving car. But those parked ones, they just come out of nowhere you know and bang, you are off your bike, lying there in the nice flat and not moving ground and a nap would be good.
#DifferentTimes as Mark Kermode would say.
Ironically, one of the members of the Morning mailing list was killed on his bike in #Leicester, but he rode on the stupidly busy main road in the daytime (sober) which I would never even consider. Those drivers were nuts.
