Gmail decided that an important email from @ilyasergey was spam, despite the fact that it was a reply to an email that *I* sent *him*. What the fuck, Google?

@lindsey @ilyasergey

This has been happening for a while. As a PhD student this makes me nervous and I find myself asking senior collaborators if they got my emails, hoping I don’t come off as rushing them or desperate.

@escape_velocity @lindsey @ilyasergey I use this to assuage my own anxiety! instead of asking them because I’m nervous, I ask them because I know mail providers lose stuff. provides a convenient hook for that first reminder. “hey I sent you an email a few days ago, wanted to confirm that it didn’t get lost to spam. I’m only asking for that reason, not because I am socially anxious and need to hear from you to validate my self-worth.”
@lindsey @ilyasergey It's to remind gen x whiners that not everything was better in the 1980s, since "did you get my email" was a standard part of the protocol then too.
@lindsey @ilyasergey I just checked my spam mailbox and it includes legit Google Scholar alerts from @ google.com that I signed up for. At least they're not biased?
