couldn't resist! just bought this for Switch and downloading now. 5GB

will try and finish Lunar 2 asap so I can get stuck in, I don't really like having more than one game on the go at a time

Holy shit this is fucking excellent, they have absolutely NAILED that late 90s aesthetic, it's pretty damn creepy too. I've only just completed the tutorial and started the game proper but I'm creeping slowly around with my busted sword like a big wuss

I want to go home, lol

deleted my save in #LabyrinthOfTheDemonKing last night as I wasted so many items by being shit at the combat, gonna do it again tonight now I'm a bit better, shouldn't take me too long to get back to where I was

managing stamina is hard, you don't have a lot at the beginning, and if you run out you are fucked. the enemies are good at blocking.

at least sprinting doesn't consume stamina so you can run away screaming sometimes, but I died so many times because I swung my sword, missed, and got smashed by a counter attack

you actually have to use the kick attack to break the enemies guard, then close the distance to attack before they recover

slow and methodical is the way

you can charge up a heavy attack by holding down the trigger, but it's slow and if you get hit it knocks you out of the attack, so you can't just hold down the trigger and wait for the enemy to walk into it (well you can but your timing has to be spot on)

you can get bows and guns later, too

oh, this game has the equivalent of the Nemesis from Resident Evil 3, that's... nice 😫 some huge guy with his eyeballs hanging out who spawns out of nearby pools of blood wherever you happen to be

he hasn't burst through any walls yet though, thank god. I don't think my heart could take it

making good progress despite him though, unlocking shortcuts and finding key items!

this game is so good, I want more games with PS1 graphics now

made it to the third floor of the first tower last night, and I have three of the four special gems needed to open the locked door near the entrance. also found where the Kappa went after I freed it from the pantry, and traded two of my Shirikodama (euww) so he would upgrade my hand axe to +1 (I love how those are the currency used for upgrading weapons 😆)

I'm gonna keep banging on about this game until more people play it, lol

beat the first boss and completed the tower! I feel like such a badass now, lol

got stuck for a while but eventually worked out what I needed to do to progress 💡 there are some nasty enemies on the third floor, little crawling fuckers that don't stay dead unless you stamp on their heads 😫 they also cause rot buildup which is an instakill when it gets to 100%. nasty

made it to the hub area and had some matcha

I realised that the Kappa blacksmith and the Neko that runs the teahouse in the hub area are a married couple, so cute 😍

I looked at the credits from the main menu and this game is the product of one person? with a bit of help with the art and sound it looks like. absolutely nuts. it's SO good

it feels great to play, once you get used to the slower pace of the combat and movement. have got quite a few weapons now and they all feel different to use

if this keeps up the quality to the end it'll be an easy 9/10 from me

exploring the second tower now, the Bath House. repaired my katana and upgraded it to +2 and it's made the combat a bit more survivable, slowly starting to get the hang of parrying enemy attacks which is essential for survival. enemies are using a lot more status effects now, mainly bleed and poison 😫

still can't quite believe how good this game is, the levels are excellent

second tower complete! the boss at the end was easier than the first one. this was a really fun dungeon with a cool central mechanic, I have a lingering feeling that I may have missed something though as there were a couple of rooms I couldn't get in

already thinking about doing a second playthrough of this game, but at the moment the third tower is wrecking my shit. a grimdark prison block full of skeletons. nice 💀

beat the giant Tsuchigumo in the prison "feeding room" (euww) and now looking for a way to summon the real boss of the area, The Jailer

something about ringing four bells (sounds familiar) but I don't have the special mallet to ring them with... and I think I've been everywhere I can get to 🤔

ok I am officially stuck. where tf is the special mallet for ringing the bells 😨 at last I found the Buddha statue so I can return it to the shrine and stop the big unkillable eyeball guy from following me everywhere

gonna leave it for tonight and carry on tomorrow

yay, I am officially UNstuck 😃 there was a room I had missed that had the items I needed to get the special bell-ringing hammer and I should now be able to reach the boss of this tower

wish me luck, lol

and done! beat the Jailer in the 3rd tower (Prison)

the 4th tower is basically a long corridor that leads to the final boss. kinda disappointing (I was expecting another dungeon with puzzles etc) but it has a really great atmosphere

the final boss, The Demon King himself, is really cool. a classic Oni design with the grinning mask and twin horns. not too hard and he went down after a couple of attempts

overall this was an utterly fantastic game that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will probably do another run at some point as there were a lot of weapons I didn't even touch and I'm sure I missed some stuff

absolutely superb, you can tell this was a real labour of love from the developer and an easy 9/10 from me
