Hamfest packet radio goodie.
Suspected to be from the former Finnish packet radio network.
1200baud 1200MHz band backhaul link with TAPR TNC-2 clone.

#packetradio #packet #23cm #hamradio #hamfest

The radio used in this link is/was an Icom IC-12GAT.

1Watt, 1240-1300 MHz.

@ftg quite interesting, first time I see a non-diy radio for the 23cm and it's even a handheld. I would have thought that the propagation physics at 1GHz are not very useful for outdoors..

@gorplop
Easy to get tons of gain, while still having 2m for user access and 70cm for user access or regional links.

I'm currently at like 2.5 commercial and the rest modded NMT900's or homebrew.
Commercial being Kenwood TH-55 HT, Standard C6000 70cm/23cm Twin Bander and the 0.5 being that Icom IC-12GAT, because it does not have a battery nor antenna.
As it had not sold at the end of the hamfest and I'm a sucker for 23cm at a good price.

The packet modem.
With Sep 16 90 (so 1990) JKISS EPROM and some mystery EPROM.

@ftg That's pretty nifty!
@ftg Z80 for the win. Back when you could buy a microprocessor and build a computer. Probably written in assembly language. You should be able to hook a terminal to that serial port and see if it's alive.
@mike805
Yep. That's the plan. And to see if the callsign was stored in EPROM or SRAM.
Because if there was some SRAM backup battery, it has been safely removed before this.
