Tell Kroger to Ban Cruel Live Lobster Tanks Today!

Lobsters are stolen from their homes and thrown into tiny tanks until they are bought, boiled alive, and eaten. This is the tragic reality of lobsters who are held captive in some of The Kroger Company’s 2,720 grocery retail stores located across the United States. Please urge Kroger to ban live lobster tanks from all of its stores today! Lobsters are solitary animals who live on the sea floor. Many species of lobster are targeted for human consumption, and they are lured into traps using bait. The trapped animals are lifted from their home and eventually transported to grocery stores, such as Kroger, where they often have rubber bands secured tightly around their claws to restrict their movement. They are held captive in small tanks that are just a fraction of the size they would experience in their natural habitats. The lobsters’ suffering is on display until customers buy them, transport them home on ice, and throw them into a pot of scalding water. The animals are boiled while fully conscious and experience excruciating pain for up to a minute until they die. Live lobsters may also be cut up before they are boiled alive. Humans eat their heads, abdomens, claws, legs, and tails. Studies have shown that lobsters and other crustaceans experience pain, meaning the terrified animals feel and suffer through the trapping, confinement, and cooking process. Whole Foods Markets, The Save Mart Companies, Safeway, and Raley’s Supermarkets have phased out live lobster tanks. It is time The Kroger Company does the same! TAKE ACTION: Please urge The Kroger Co. to ban live lobster tanks from Kroger, Dillans, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Pick’n Save, Ralphs, and all of its grocery retail stores by signing the letter below. All signatures will be delivered to Rodney McMullen, Chairman and CEO of The Kroger Company, and The Kroger Company’s Customer Relations team. Please be advised that Vegan FTA does not promote or endorse harassment, hate speech, or unlawful conduct of any kind.
