Some input though... One of my pet peeves with Instagram is the square thumbnail view (which Pixelfed has inherited).

How could I ever judge if I wanted to look closer at a photo (by tapping/clicking it) if I can’t see its composition from grid view? It’s an inherently photography hostile design.

A default masonry view would solve this. I think generally Flickr is a better source of inspiration for a photography service/app than Instagram.

The default square grid would work fine if you forced a 1:1 pixel aspect ratio for all photos (then they’d be viewable in their entirety from the grid view). But well, that’s really limiting too. Masonry is currently the best we have.
