“Tornado warnings were delayed because of reduced staff. Those critical moments — a midnight warning to your phone waking you up, giving you precious seconds to find shelter — came too late for some.

The risk of these cuts creating this exact problem was known before last night.” https://www.mesoscalenews.com/p/tornado-warnings-delayed-because

Tornado warnings delayed because of DOGE cuts

At least 27 are dead in Missouri in Kentucky after severe weather alerts were delayed overnight because of DOGE cuts.

@tusk81 Musk and Trump are murderers.

@tusk81

A deeply red state paid the price last night

@tusk81
AMERICANS:
Seriously...not a drill...
YOUR GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO KILL YOU.
Seriously.
☠️ 🇺🇸 ☠️
@tusk81 Because they want people to pray the storm away?
@tusk81 so we're charging Musk and his gang with being a terrorist organization right, Annie? Anakin?
@ketmorco @tusk81 All billionaires and their sycophants are terrorists
@tusk81 Reminds one of the old saying "Penny wise. Pound foolish"
@iveyline @tusk81
Except they're not even penny wise. They're penny foolish and pound braindead.

@tusk81

Education saves lives.

@tusk81 These are just a very tiny fraction of all the deaths that will be laid at the feet of trump, musk and this administration. It will be, once again, in the MILLIONS, probably before the first YEAR is over with. UNLESS we DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

@tusk81

Tragic. I propose some solidarity. Let's make the June 14th protests about restoring NOAA.

@indivisibleteam

#NOAA #june14 #Indivisible #uspol

@jawarajabbi @tusk81 @indivisibleteam

It's already about restoring NOAA, and restoring the CFPB, and US
AID and NIH and the FDA and CDC...

It's about restoring the Constitution as the law of the land where everyone, no matter where they come from, what they look like, who they love or who they pray to receives equal treatment under the law and the laws passed by the preeminent branch of our government are respected and obeyed by the lesser branches including the office of the president.

@mcquiniac @tusk81 The Trump Republican Agenda is genocide of the poor, so this tracks.

@tusk81

The Democrats needs to campaign on this.

@tusk81 And, of course, nobody has standing to sue the bastards who did this. But it just *might* - with the right testimony in the right House committees - move some Republicans to flip Lutnick the (virtual) bird on TV.
@tusk81 Well… the dead and injured weren’t billionaires were they? Collateral damage of Project 2025.
@tusk81 we knew this would happen and it will only get worse. when will people wake up and get rid of dumbo? How many more have to die?
@tusk81 they’ll blame Biden.
@tusk81 DOGE kills, not DEI... is all people gotta understand.

@tusk81 Republicans can get away with dangerous cuts to #NWS and #NOAA because, as usual, they depend on the inattention of Americans to what is going on around them.

Few Americans pay enough attention to know those agencies exist and what they do. The weather comes to them from their phone or their TV. They do not think about how it gets there. Unless they see and hear an obvious threat through their windows, they won't care.

All that is fertile soil for #GOP malevolence.

@tusk81 I'm a survivor of #Plainfield. People died that day because of delayed warning due to NWS staffing issues and being stretched thin.

These deaths this weekend in St
Louis and Kentucky are on Trump and Musk.

@tusk81 trump drools at the prospect of murdering Americans

@tusk81

The recklessness of Trump and Musk is begging for retribution. Hope it comes sooner rather than later. In the form of defeat in Congress: not advocating violence.

(But I wouldn't cry if either one was taken out by falling space debris.)

@tusk81 More info here, saying the office was actually fully staffed on the night of the tornadoes: https://www.weku.org/the-commonwealth/2025-05-17/kentucky-nws-office-in-jackson-was-staffed-amid-severe-weather-despite-shortages

NWS staff are amazing. I hate what they're being forced to deal with.

Kentucky NWS office in Jackson was staffed amid severe weather, despite shortages.

The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Jackson, Kentucky, was fully staffed overnight as tornadoes descended on London and Somerset, despite staffing shortages.

@tusk81 More victims of "efficiency"
@tusk81 That's how America is getting great again.
@tusk81
In the 1996 movie "Twister" they were trying to develop a breakthrough to increase the warning time before tornadoes from 3 minutes to 15 minutes.
By 2024 when the sequel "Twisters" came out, that 15 minute warning time was a reality, thanks to NWS research and investments.
@tusk81 don't forget to vote republican again. Thank you Donnie.
