@tusk81 Republicans can get away with dangerous cuts to #NWS and #NOAA because, as usual, they depend on the inattention of Americans to what is going on around them.

Few Americans pay enough attention to know those agencies exist and what they do. The weather comes to them from their phone or their TV. They do not think about how it gets there. Unless they see and hear an obvious threat through their windows, they won't care.

All that is fertile soil for #GOP malevolence.

In the 1996 movie "Twister" they were trying to develop a breakthrough to increase the warning time before tornadoes from 3 minutes to 15 minutes.
By 2024 when the sequel "Twisters" came out, that 15 minute warning time was a reality, thanks to NWS research and investments.
