#AI is killing the joy I feel with a lot of things lately. That's not a great feeling. But you can explain it if you compare AI with frozen pizza.

@leah I think you really hit the nail with the comparison... The part about questioning if something is or isn't AI-generated really hit home. And worst of all it can lead to people wrongly accusing someone of using AI.
E.g. as part of the #eh22 designteam, we had people accusing us of using AI, especially for the rendered background of our poster and postcard we distributed at 38c3. And that just hurts so much... all the time invested just to get compared and reduced to AI slop.
@traumweh @leah I read this and agree with all of it and wonder where this sentiment was in, say, the 80s. My father was worked as a sign painter / putting lettering on cars/trucks, and vinyl signs wiped out a lot of his work seemingly overnight. (I wrote about this a bit in 2023.)
I'm firmly in the "I prefer things to be made by humans" camp, but society hasn't been willing to draw these lines in the past. If we start now, we should consider moving it backwards...

Fair warning, I’m going to wade into the whole AI/ChatGPT discussion. It’s been discussed to death, but I’m going to jump in anyway. Feel free to click away if you’re already sick of the topic. I’m going to use “ChatGPT” as a stand-in for ML/AI-driven writing tools, even though it’s not the only one on the market and there’s certainly more to come. Anyway, it seems like ChatGPT is poised to automate away a lot of writing work, and we’re in for tools that are going to produce a whole lot of content of varying quality and accuracy whether we like that prospect or not.
@mariibyrd @leah AI takes the Zen out of Being.
very well said, and thank you for sharing that article.
@leah great text, thank you! During my current TNG rewatch I was reminded of how "AI" is killing joy and innovation while watching S01E16 "When The Bough Breaks" [1] where a whole planet depends on a system they neither understand nor know how to maintain, but which is governing their life choices.
@leah
Come on, frozen pizza isn't *that* bad :-p
It might not be the most healthy or tasty food, but at least it's regulated and safe - unlike AI which may give you any kind of actively dangerous code/advice.
@leah As a connoisseur of frozen pizza I have to disagree!!
Such a useful, time-saving, important invention that's improving my life... to AI? :|
Slander, I say!
(I do like *good* pizza too, but frozen pizza has a completely different taste/texture/feeling for me that cannot be replaced by proper pizza either. It's almost a different dish to me. Yes, I do have very important personal memories connected to frozen pizza.)
@leah The first main issue is "greed" and that's why AI will be successful. It can replace some people and some jobs and that will save some rich people a lot of money.
The second main issue: There is no solution in reach. Most of the people just don't care and they are paving the way to hell for everyone
@leah Analogy unclear; I love mea good frozen pizza. The way it cooks unevenly in the oven, The way the frost trapped under the crust wets it, making the middle all gooey? So good.
I also love a good restaurant pizza and I love the ones my mother would make from scratch. These are all good pizza experiences.
@leah killing the joy so you may function for the production. As long tech does not give us more time for us and our family, you buy just an abstraction from a company to be productive for the fat cat.
Thx for the blog post. I Iike what ya wrote
