If you ever make it to the Kunstmuseum #Gelsenkirchen, they have an amazing exhibition on "kinetic art"! Artworks that move, glow, make sounds! Artworks involving flowing water, electromagnetism, mirrors, motors!

Very inspiring! And it's free!

I'll be in #Wuppertal this weekend, mostly out of infrastructure curiosity! :D

Does anyone of you live closeby and would enjoy meeting up/having a coffee/going for a walk?

There it is: the #Wuppertaler Schwebebahn (suspension railway)!

Feels super futuristic, even though it apparently opened in 1901!!

Hard to imagine that for people who live here, it will probably become pretty normal at some point. :O

Think I'll need to watch a documentary about it tonight, recommendations welcome!

@blinry Some fun about the probably strangest railway accident: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuffi

Fun might be the wrong word! In hindsight I find it amusing that people thought it might be a good idea....

@blinry naturally the Tim Traveller is a quick and fun introduction. ;)
@root42 "It's the world's oldest suspension railway. It's also one of the world's only suspension railways, as you will have noticed if you have… been anywhere" :'D
@blinry Interesting to see the pale blue “schwebebahn” sign. I’m guessing only the absence of a second one is preventing the design/colour of from being standardised through the German-speaking world in the way that U-/S-Bahn signage is?

@blinry alles ok bei dir?
@blinry Magnificent city! But DO NOT attempt to take an elephant for a ride on the Schwebebahn. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuffi?wprov=sfti1

@neo @blinry

Why bother taking the Schwebebahn if I can't even bring my elephant 🤪

@blinry Welcome to my home town. I would love to give you some recommendations at least… if you like me to do so.
@blinry oh no.

@blinry You could also take the S7 from Wuppertal to Solingen via Remscheid, it passes over Germany's highest railroad bridge (Müngstener Brücke between Remscheid Güldenwerth and Solingen Schaberg).
