Fantastic news! We've reached 1 million votes! But please keep sharing and voting in case some votes are invalid!

EU citizens, please sign this petition to ban so-called "conversion therapy" in the EU. It's a practice that's extremely harmful towards LGBTQ+ people.

The site is a little slow, but keep trying!

https://eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#/screen/home

It's already banned in some countries but we need a EU wide ban!

We now have eight countries past their thresholds, and we have at least 1,000,000 total votes.

So keep signing & voting!

cc'ing the above post to @lisamelton
@thisismissem Boosted! Thanks for the heads up.

@thisismissem Ain't no way this is reaching 1,000,000 signatures within what is like, the next week.

EDIT: I KNOW IT'S BEEN DONE STOP REPLYING ABOUT IT !!!!!! ok i'm muting the thread lmao

@soop @thisismissem
Well actually i was surprised to know that the initiative gained 200k supports since april. Looks like it has doubled in the last month of the campain. And 1/4 of the current total seems to have been registered those last 10 days. That is very unfortunate that the initiative only starts to be wildely shared at the very end of the campain.

Thoughts of one of the organizer can be found here, for those who'd like to know more :

@adrien01 Thanks for sharing this article!

I have dropped them an e-mail so that they will know to post things this to the Fediverse in the future.

@soop @thisismissem
There are currently almost 9 new signatures per second, to the million could be reached before 15:30 (Paris time)
@soop @thisismissem it was reached finally around 16:05, a slight slowdown during the lunch break.
Keep signing, more is better !
@soop @thisismissem wow, this does not stand the test of time well 😅
And is making me so happy.

@soop @thisismissem It's 97.96% of the way there, with one day left to go. The pace of signatures has been increasing as the deadline approaches.

I'd suggest you unboost the original post and then boost it again. Preferably several times over the day.

@soop @thisismissem It just passed a million!
@soop @thisismissem well this take didn't age well 😂
@soop @thisismissem you might want to check the website again and reconsider your statement
@soop I'm happy to report there absolutely is way to reach 1.000.000 signatures within the week.
@soop @thisismissem
😆 A half million people just signed to spite you...
@soop @thisismissem
Mute the thread if you want but it has been done. Learn from that and stop sabotaging activism with lethargy (I'm not claiming that was your intention but that's what it does).
@soop @thisismissem there are a lot of people in this place called Europa, so, 1 000 000 is peanuts.
@soop @thisismissem Now's the time to be happy that you were wrong :)
@thisismissem Wait wtf Netherlands doing? 😱
@EVDHmn Like they're sooooo close! Don't stop now!
@thisismissem I only heard about that a few years ago. It is always a good thing to spread - even if people just get the information that is exists and is a bad thing. @EVDHmn

@thisismissem also this website is an official governmental site of the EU

usually I'm a bit reluctant with giving petition sites data but they have my data anyways

@mmby

Technically speaking you are giving them your eID, which contains the bare minimum information to sign the petition.

@thisismissem

@thisismissem Found a problem with the form: the last nlln is not part of the id number. Never been asked for that specific code before, even when negotiating with an isp over the phone. I bet most people get an error when they type their id number and just give up...
@tigerpunk oh? That sounds like an error that should be reported to that website? I don't really know, I'm not an EU citizen yet, so can't vote at all :(
@thisismissem So I'm guessing Spain is covered? Should I continue to spam people and ensure they voted?
@Johns_priv spain is at 131% of the threshold
@thisismissem @Johns_priv the form says they need seven countries past the threshold AND 1,000,000 votes. So keep voting!
@Johns_priv @thisismissem yes, we also need to cross a global threshold of 1.000.000 votes
@escapistes @Johns_priv yeah, that's perhaps much harder, but not impossible! We've got this!

@thisismissem
Nonché #Italia (34,02%)

Il tempo rimasto è poco, ma qualche voto in piú non può che far bene, oltre al fatto che fa bene parlarne e riconoscersi nelle molte persone europee che già hanno dato il proprio sostegno.

@lasiepedimore

@thisismissem Worth pointing out you only need to be a citizen, you don't need to currently reside there. So if you're in the UK, Switzerland, etc right now but hold a passport for an EU country, you can sign anyway.
@LonM yeah, that. It's still shitty that all this is locked to citizens only and not inclusive of the people who actually reside in the EU too.
@LonM @thisismissem I texted a link to every EU/US dual citizen I could think of
@thisismissem sharing this on bsky as well. Thanks for putting this on the radar!
@megamatt this account is bridged so you can totally boost it from the bridged account

@thisismissem these numbers look already better than when I posted about it this morning.

so keep going people. We have a couple of days left to do this!

@thisismissem My country has the lowest voting percentage 😑
@thisismissem Netherlands on 98.05% now
@thisismissem NL going fast now: Percentage 99.29% 💪

@thisismissem

Actually proud of Belgium for once!
That does not happen often, or much at all...

@thisismissem I'm actually surprised Slovenia reached one of the highest levels among listed countries, though still not hitting the threshold. I'd consider my country very "traditional" and would expect the lowest participation, not highest. I guess times are changing and people are much more open now.
@thisismissem Done: und an meine deutsche Timeline: Konversionstherapie ist wirklich verachtenswert und hier ist ne (elektronische) Unterschrift sehr viel wirksamer als bei Plattformen wie Campact etc.
@thisismissem signed already, but boosting for visibility!!
#netherlands & #slovenia you’re so close!
