Hi all! Good news — Google has decided to restore the permissions to our #Android app so we can bring back the full file syncing functionality. Expect a test tonight and final later this or early next week. Thanks a lot for your support, it is what made all the difference!

Google restores Nextcloud user’s file access on Android

Nextcloud’s public story of Play Store problems seems to have helped.

@nextcloud I had switched over to the non-affected F-Droid built anyway in the meantime...
@nextcloud
Reminder for users to always use Fdroid if possible.
Obtainium is also cool for direct APKs.
.. just switched to the F-Droid version.
@nextcloud
Maybe focus on google free stores/delivery ways. Saves resources for more important tasks.
@voks
Good suggestion. I usually try to install apps from Galaxy Store on my Samsung devices, but @nextcloud is not available there.

@nextcloud nice to know social media callouts can still be used for some good in 2025.

Users of Nextcloud on Android should still switch over to F-Droid. Have some independence from Google.

@nextcloud I has removed the Play Store version and switched to the f-droid build 💪🤗
@nextcloud Sooo…. Is there a “for dummies” explanation of how to migrate a mass of files from Google Drive to Nextcloud? Could someone be so kind as to point me towards such a guide?
@aprilfollies @nextcloud I would use rclone to download the files into your Nextcloud storage directory and let Nextcloud Desktop sync them.

@aprilfollies @nextcloud @jeppe you can use takeout.google.com, and it will convert and download all your google files to ex. word files, which you can upload NextCloud.

Your files will be downloaded as a Zip folder, so if NextCloud can extract zip, you should be able to upload that one file and extra it.

@mosgaard @nextcloud @jeppe Oh, that’s very efficient, thank you!
