Heart rate and body temperature during a PhD defense, an informal look

doi:10.5281/zenodo.15425863

This dataset compiles the heart rate and body temperature as reported by a FitBit Charge 5 device (Firmware version 57.20001.194.91) of the author and data subject during the defense of her phd thesis. Several intervals are provided: sleep, cycling to the station, and a set of Netherlands-specific defense aspects such as the Zweetkamer (lit. “sweat room”, named because you’re sweating in anxiety), the Lekenpraatje, and the interrogation. The times for the end of the lekenpraatje and questioning are approximate, per the authors’ memory (somewhat reliable.)

These have been plotted into two graphs (hr.png and temp.png) but the datasets are provided such that you can do your own investigation. If you use this dataset for an investigation or produce a nice plot, please inform me.

the author has also attempted to provide these as an ISA Tab formatted study, via ARCitect but this proved exceedingly difficult. It is not exported as an RO-Crate as my partner who is involved in ARCitect shares that it’s primarily done through the CI service which would have required an excessive amount of energy investiture, even by my standards.

heart rate of the subject peaked during the start of the lekenpraatje, the first words spoken by the subject during the defense, to ~130bpm, similar to that seen whilst cycling to the station.

Heart rate and body temperature of an individual known as "hexylena" during her PhD defense, an informal look

This dataset compiles the heart rate and body temperature as reported by a FitBit Charge 5 device (Firmware version 57.20001.194.91) of the author and data subject hexylena during the defense of her phd thesis. @hexylena My congratulations to Dr. Experimental Subject!
@hexylena conclusion: why workout when you can simply enroll in a PhD program   /j
@hexylena So (not) cool! And I think congratulations are also called for?

@hexylena Rexamining the findings from Violet at al. with a change point and right-censoring analysis protocol reveals that the factor "ceasing to sleep" might be causal for the permanent increase in the user HR clearly shown in the data. Further investigation is required to determine if several exposure event to this factor further increase minimal HR level for the user.

([Late] Congrats! You did it!!)
