@courtcan Sounds about right. It's currently costing them vast sums of money. They're not spending that without the expectation they can recoup it eventually.

And even if you try to avoid getting dependent on AI for your own life, you can't stop your employer and every business and organisation you deal with getting sucked into this trap, so one day you'll be paying for that when their costs go up

Information & language itself will be the target.

The enshittified systems won’t even talk about things that better your life, only of the owner class.

Everything’ll be wrapped in covert advertising, and you’ll be expected to think of it as ”normal”.

They’ll just lie to your face with a smile, while people in charge shift blame to the system, the makers of which can’t ever be reached.

@courtcan I think you're 100% correct. It's the only way they can make it profitable.

Microsoft did it with Windows on Govt computers a while back - gifting the OS for 'free', then charging later.

Elon did it with Ukraine and Starlink.

And now they're doing it with AI. But there's a crucial difference - Windows and Starlink *worked*. AI is a toy.

3. Start to re-engineer the LLMs to reflect a new political and social reality backed by an entirely new history to supports the new reality

@courtcan in this context, it makes sense that students would be socially encouraged to cheat on assignments at school (the place where you usually learn about the basic things you need to know so you can develop further on your own)

both to undermine their ability to do that,

and also to burn out the teachers who are, for the most part, operating in spite of all of this
