#openstreetmap started blocking the mapping app I am using on my Nokia #N900 :(

"user-agent": "CloudGPS for N900"

I realize there's maybe 5 of us so no one's going to notice the suck we suffer :P

I wrote a proxy to lie about user agent. Annoying.

But free, public, mutual #Web is dying. How are kids going to learn if they have to jump through advanced hoops to access anything? Where will the new generation come from?

Maybe we should create an overlay network for nerds only.

#osm

I'll donate for the 20MiB of tiles I download per year, I promise :P

Once I have more time I'll try #Maemo #Leste but that day is not coming soon.

RETRACTION: #openstreetmap IS NOT blocking my favorite client.
But I DID jump to conclusions.

I'll try to be more thorough before complaining, even though I'm failing in recent cases.

@dcz what was the issue? TLS versions?
@grischard I didn't debug that far. The OS was released in 2009, so it's either that or the root certificate validity.
It's effectively source-available because I can't be bothered to recompile the software to debug it and the OS is so old I couldn't install dev tools.
@dcz I wouldn’t be surprised if with all the AI scrapping going on they didn’t just whitelist only the user agents that they know for sure are users going through a browser or the app.
@dcz We're not blocking that user-agent. I checked as far back as May 8th and didn't see any failed requests. I see about 100-200 requests a day on five days in May.

@pnorman I owe you an apology:

error 35: SSL connect error for URL: 'https://tile.openstreetmap.org/16/xx.png'

I jumped to the conclusion after seeing that wget received 403.

Meanwhile, it's the SSL stack showing its age.

@dcz 15 years is pretty old for a SSL stack.
