I have to ask again.. is there really no active roleplaying community on the Fediverse? No instances dedicated to roleplaying, in the online text sense?

I went looking, but I genuinely can't find any active accounts whatsoever. 😐

Edit: Thanks for all the replies and boosts on this! 😯 It seems I'm not the only one looking for a dedicated roleplaying community.

While dice.camp was suggested several times, it's not what I'm looking for, exactly. Pen & Paper, tabletop games and RPGs are fun and I love them, but I'm talking text-based, back-and-forth, in-character roleplay here!
Back in the day a lot of people used LiveJournal, but there is a GIANT "TwitRP" community on the bird site for most fandoms, especially actively running TV shows. THAT'S what I'm looking for, and all I can find here are vacant and empty accounts that haven't been touched since 2023. 🤧

@Radgryd any server is a roleplay server if you make it. I've been role playing as a human this whole time when in fact I am a cat with a keyboard.

@Radgryd omg yes, it'd be so nice to see more than the same 40ish usernames on the forum site I'm on. Not that there's anything wrong with those users, but it'd be nice to see other options and ideas people have instead of the same bumps again and again

@Radgryd Thanks for asking this. I'm curious, as well, but never thought to do so!
Anyway, my experience with such communities is mostly in the distant past. More recently it seems to me that people like having the tools provided by specific platforms: chat, dice rollers, maps, etc, as well as the general messaging. I know Fedi doesn't forbid it, but don't know of any who provide such? (looking at dice.camp real soon now)

@Radgryd I am following #arknights tag to see if there is community for gacha I play. There are barely talk about game only community I know of is either Reddit(but I dropped it), discord ones(sticking to r/ak instead of official) and inside Misskey.io (Japanese only but at least fan artists show up there).
So with that said, in 2024 when twitter made dumb idea, there was 2 persons who roleplayed as characters from Arknights but think it gone on for month or two and died out.

@Radgryd Was there ever such an RP community on Twitter? I imagine it's simply a question of the medium format - Mastodon threads aren't great to read and write dialogue. RP forums still cling to life.

Edit never mind, you said there was such a thing on the other site and that massively surprises me. Goes to show that people will rather make any medium work for their purpose rather than trying a new one I guess.

@Radgryd I thought about spinning up an instance for my rock star game Mic Drop, but never actually flipped the switch. The idea being the users on the server all play fictionally famous musicians.

@Radgryd I don't think it's a roleplaying instance per se, but all the in-character RP accounts I've seen on here were on mindly.social, so it might be worth checking that one out!

I'm game. I've run PBeM games before. Had a WoD game that ran for years. Now, I'm writing my own setting in a system designed for role-playing over roll-playing. I'll need either a server to run it or some time to set one up myself, if there's interest.
