Wild grapevines on the bank of the LA River

The tiny blooms were strikingly fragrant. I'm going to try to remember to go back and see if I can forage grapes later this summer. (Tho I suppose given their location they will be coated in a light dusting of diesel exhaust, quite the terroir)

@inquiline that's so pretty. Once I did a vineyard tour and I asked them what the grape flowers look like. They told me they're nothing worth looking at and I wouldn't find them beautiful. I was like, "I'll be the judge of what I find beautiful."
@dillyd I actually noticed them because of the scent. It was almost like fresh laundry but not in an overly perfumed way, just delicate, slightly sweet. This is *not* what one expects to smell at the LA River & adjacent wetlands--often sulfurous smells or burned trash. I first thought it was a chemical pack of a cleaning product a person had dropped. Really cool that it turned out to be flowers! We had wild grape vine on our fence in my yard growing up but I only remember the grapes, not flowers
@inquiline
I love it when it's a scent that first draws my attention to flowers. That's really cool.
@dillyd And, i appreciate your judgment of what's beautiful in the pics you share!
@inquiline thanks! And ditto!
