#Trump announced #India & #Pakistan agreed to a #ceasefire, after 4 days of widespread fighting.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India & Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted on Truth Social, congratulating the 2 countries on using “Common Sense & Great Intelligence.”
Indian & Pakistani ofcls confirmed the cease-fire in social media posts, though neither mentioned an American role.
Secy of #State #MarcoRubio said in a stmnt that he & #JDVance had engaged w/senior ofcls from both countries, including their prime ministers, over 48hrs. In addition to the #ceasefire, #India & #Pakistan also agreed to “start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site,” Rubio said.
However, India’s foreign ministry contradicted #Rubio, saying the ceasefire was worked out directly between India & Pakistan, & that there had been no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any location.
Violations reported after #India & #Pakistan agree to #ceasefire
Within hours of the ceasefire agreement, violations were reported from the main cities of Indian #Kashmir, the territory that had borne the brunt of 4 days of fighting.
Blasts were heard in #Srinagar & #Jammu & projectiles & flashes were seen in the night sky over Jammu, similar to the events of the previous evening, according to authorities, residents & Reuters witnesses.

Also despite the truce, 2 Indian government sources told Reuters that the punitive measures announced by #India & reciprocated by #Pakistan, such as #trade suspension & #visa cancellations, would remain in place for now.
The sources also said the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, a critical #water-sharing pact that India suspended after the Kashmir attack, would remain in abeyance.
