We're having big mourning dove flocks this spring, though not many other birds. The other day I was counting doves as they suddenly all startled and flew away. That's not unusual -- doves are the biggest cowards, EVERYTHING frightens them -- but this time they had a good reason, as the local Cooper's hawk promptly landed on the fence overlooking the feeding area, and obligingly stayed there long enough for me to grab the camera.

@akkana Reminds me of the couple of times when I had a bunch of birds going absolutely nuts with calls in my yard. Like 15-20 minutes of nonstop noise. I finally go look out the window and there is a red tailed hawk sitting in the yard calmly nomming on a squirrel
@fskornia Neat! The only time I've seen a hawk eating a kill was a Cooper's hawk, quite likely this same one, plucking and eating a bird. The yard was silent -- nobody scolded the hawk, they all got out of there as fast as they could.
