Symbols are more important than most really realize. They just have to be the right symbols at the right time.

Republicans use symbols constantly to great effect, while the left (or at least right-wing dems) look down on using rhetoric and symbols to convince people, like it's cheating or something. But certain types of constituents will literally only ever respond to symbols and rhetoric

@kottke My father-in-law worked as a chippy on the 1967 film, The Dirty Dozen. When escaping right at the end, they drive a big Tracked Daimler-Benz over a Nazi car. It crushed it so flat that it just drove straight with very little bump, and didn’t look good on film. They then built a study metal ramp/frame and filmed it again so it looked like it went up and down over it. You can see the cut from one to another.
In comparison, the Tesla did better!
