She was meant to be an oracle of the moon before being kidnapped to be used in the empowerment ritual. The ritual did not go the way the cult intended, and turned her white fur to the black she has now, bonding her to the void, and cursing her with forbidden knowledge. With this knowledge she can control lesser minds, armor herself in shadow or curse others with madness, but she strives to be the final hope, when all else fails

Well, since I posted yesterday what I planned for today, I suppose I'll post what I was previously thinking of posting yesterday!

Since I've been toying with the idea of redoing my website with character profiles(more on that later) I've been commissioning icons for my various OCs. So, actual new art of Sharilar!

This is part of a series I may do, depicting Sharilar's journey to ascension as a set of tarot cards.

Sharilar was originally born with white fur and golden eyes, the sign of a future oracle among her kind. Her parents however were wanderers, and so she was raised among a traveling caravan of wagoneers, making their way across the countryside from town to town.

As she reached the age of her majority, in one of those towns she caught the eye of a cult leader who worshipped the Great Old Ones. He had uncovered a ritual to create an avatar for them, and wished to claim that power for his own, but it required a worthy sacrifice.

During Sharilar's birthday celebration he approached her, and with the help of quite a bit of alcohol, convinced her to sneak off with him for some "alone time." Once they were alone, he knocked her out and took her to the ritual site. Binding her there, his cult began the ritual, but it did not go as they expected - rather than becoming the sacrifice, the vixen was instead transformed, in body and soul, while the cultists themselves were devoured as fuel for the ritual. All but for the leader, who vanished in the confusion.

This card depicts that moment of transformation, when Sharilar's very nature was changed, setting her on the path to ascension.

We'll see if it gets finished(I intend to see it done, but things can always happen), but I decided to lean into having this Suit of Tails made.

The Two of Tails represents Sharilar's farsight and her relationship with the Harrow.  The fortuneteller; the oracle that she still was, despite the changes wrought upon her.

This could be considered a bit of a "sneak peek", but I'd never had Sharilar depicted after her final evolution into a Great Old One before, and felt it was long overdue.

So here we finally see her in her eldritch glory as The Fatebinder, elder goddess of Hope, Fate, and the secrets of the universe. The tentacles are not a part of her, but act as her minions, though she has no power over the seas. Those that know of her theorize that it may be related to the ritual that started her gradual transformation.

While she is no longer mortal, she does remember her mortal life and will sometimes intervene in the affairs of mortals, particularly when other Great Old Ones are involved.

Sometimes great strength can come from tragedy. The Three of Tails references the loss of Sharilar's parents to Old God cultists who had been seeking Sharilar herself. While it was not the only loss she suffered after her magic's corruption, this moment sent her down a dark path for a time...

The Four of Tails covers a dark time in Sharilar's journey, where she sought out and led adventurers in destroying Old God cults and avatars, not out of justice, but vengeance. With each altar destroyed however, she unknowingly absorbed their infused magics, which eventually led to the appearance of her fourth tail as her body and soul became suffused with the void.

This card is symbolic of anger, destruction, revenge, and giving in to one's darker impulses.

The Five of Tails covers the midpoint in Sharilar's journey, halfway through her apotheosis into what she would become. After realizing what the search for vengeance(cloaked in justice) was doing to her, she stepped away to find herself once more, and learn more about what she was becoming. Finding the balance between past and future, mortal and eldritch, madness and knowledge and all the things in between helped her re-center herself, and granted her a fifth tail.

The card itself represents finding balance, both within and without.

The Six of Tails covers the discoveries Sharilar made, as she grew more in tune with the eldritch, and began to see the patterns and understand the true chain of events happening. The card itself represents revelations, and uncovered secrets.

The Seven of Tails covers Sharilar's growing power. Rather than being reactive, she decided to journey forth and be proactive about changing these patterns, to bring about a better future for those who did not have the ability to change it themselves, despite the eldritch void magics beginning to overflow. This card represents big projects and long journeys.

So first, the Eight of Tails: Determination. The slow process of change was nearing its conclusion, and her blood had even turned purple rather than the mortal red it was before. Still, she refused to give in, which leads to...

The Nine of Tails: Ascension. As her powers reach their apex, suffusing her completely with otherworldly power, she finally reaches apotheosis and arises as the newest Elder Goddess of the cosmos. Shedding her mortal shell, she seizes control of not only the domains of Fate and Forbidden Knowledge, but that most precious to her: Hope.

Each also has their own symbolic meaning. The Eight of Tails covers great opposition, as well as the strength to push through it, while the Nine of Tails covers rebirth, leaving one's past behind for something greater, or the completion of one journey and the start of another. Given the right context, it can also represent the rewards gained after much work and strife.
