Everyone I meet on my runs gets a smile and a friendly "hello" from me. It's actually quite selfish. It costs me nothing, but every smile I get back gives me strength. Especially this elderly lady who is walking regularly along the Moselle. She seems very bitter. She always gets a special friendly smile and, on Saturdays, a "have a nice weekend." When she smiles and says hello back, it gives me superpowers. 😀🏃🏞

Really? I've a number of Irish and British colleagues. They're always so polite. Maybe it's only that morning thing. 😉

@Mr_GHARice It’s a north/south thing. In the north, it’s normal to say good morning to strangers, whereas if you try that in the south they get nervous!

@Mr_GHARice love it. I’m a waver/nodder/acknowledger too.

I spent 17 years at our old house determinedly waving to a grumpy old lady on our street every time I drove past. When we moved out, I’d estimated 8 waves/week meant 7,000+ efforts.

I think in those years, I got less than 5 waves in return, but by god, those were gold. And I’d like to think some positivity rubbed off on her.
