Did I just time-travel twenty years back into my childhood?
These games used to work on machines way weaker and incapable than the #ThinkPad T430 I'm trying these on today. Now, they barely work as fast.
I could go as far back as #Windows8, which this machine comes with, but setting up an older environment with the right version of #DotNetFramework, #DirectX, etc., is a challenge.
The other thing is, since I moved all my #gaming to #Steam, and have been lured into the world of #SteamAchievements and completion stats, would running a DRM-free videogame even do it for me now?
An interesting thing is that most (if not all) of my childhood #videogames are now available for free on myabandonware.com. This means that I may finally be able to experience the full version of the demos that I had a couple of decades ago.
The only other problem that remains is being able to spend time playing these childhood fantasies, because as we all know, there's so much else to get to in this adult life. 😛
