Reading books is apparently resistance.

Go to the library.

Not just resistance to the regime, but to the idiotification of the world techbros are pursuing by trying to convince you that reading long things is just too much work and you should let a liebot do it for you.
@mttaggart It is increasingly obvious that they do not read long things.
@whitemice @mttaggart all those ads that purport to suggest the β€œ50 books Elon musk/sam Altman/etc/etc read a year” are such utter crap.

@whitemice They're the kind of people who have a secretary read a book for them, and furnish them with an opinion of it, coupled with a deliberately edgy thing to say about it, like
"I think Saruman was unfairly treated. He was a realist, unafraid to face the facts"

You know, so they can pretend to have read the book at parties.

@mttaggart

@mttaggart I don't need to go to the library. I have a stack of books at home that I'm trying to get through.
@mttaggart libraries are not what they used to be many now give you access to apps that allow to borrow Digital books, movies and Magazines. It's incredible.
@mttaggart Oh and what more? Go to the library, ask a librarian to assist you finding books about specific subject. Watch them come alive. Education is a team effort.

@mttaggart I think the most revolutionary act many of us can do is help people to learn if they want to.

To make spaces where people can access learning.

Education is rapidly becoming a radical act to enable.

@mttaggart I had not heard of Freire. Now I have some extra reading to do , thank you.

But it makes sense to me. I was of the last generation who grew up on benefits and made it to University and received a grant.

I'm angry that others pulled up the ladder so the next generation don't have the advantages I do.

Education should be free to everyone. But it's easier to oppress those who aren't given the tools to understand and express the world around them. To compare notes and unite.

Hence why in UK (& Europe) late C19th through early C20th there were the movements for Working Mens Reading Rooms, summer/evening classes, & similar adult continuing education, which only faded away post WW2 when access to third level education and state funded continuing education became commonly available. Until that was all cut back in the late '80s onwards.

Books Unbanned | Brooklyn Public Library

In April 2022, Brooklyn Public Library joined those fighting for the rights of teens nationwide to read what they like, discover themselves, and form their own opinions. Inspired by the American Library Association's Freedom to Read Statement, Books Unbanned is a response to an increasingly coordinated and effective effort to remove books from library shelves.

Books Unbanned was founded on the principle of giving teens and young adults access to the materials they want to read.

@mttaggart I should actually read this book.

@mttaggart

I think the people we are resisting already closed the libraries.

@mttaggart The library actually has two books for me that I requested, so I'll go today!
@mttaggart Go get a library card, even if you never go again.
@mttaggart almost every 2 weeks.
