I'm sick and tired of being unable to gig, or even go to gigs, due to the lack of COVID cautious events with sensible mitigations (masks, LFTs, ventilation etc)

I'm not the only one, and I know such events are starting to happen in the UK and elsewhere.

Thinking v srsly about putting sth together locally, but first I need to find out more.

So if you know of any COVID cautious music events anywhere in the world, please let me know.

(Pls boost?)

So far I'm aware of Breathe Easy in Sheffield, the group in Leeds from this post: https://scicomm.xyz/@unchartedworlds/114355315084215397 and the folks in the Bay area covered in this article: https://www.kqed.org/arts/13972628/masks-required-covid-cautious-concerts-oakland-bay-area

It's a start but there must be more than that?

@conniptions

https://cleanairclub.org/faq is doing it.
and I know there are people who are organizing something they call an Air Orgy in Los Angeles. But they are on Instagram (gata_the_baddie) so I don't know how easy they are to get in contact with. They used these policies and procedures for their event: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WI1z05du_Xb_3VJ2utuueYbnGpigZk7swJeifeYL74w/edit?tab=t.0

@conniptions

Cool!

I should clarify, the orchestra is a plan of mine, but it doesn't exist as an actual thing yet, so could that be reflected in the listing please?

@unchartedworlds Ah! So sorry! Must have got the wrong end of the stick. Will update immediately.
@unchartedworlds Update: updated now. Let me know if it's ok or if you'd prefer a different wording. Or if you'd like me to remove entirely until things more ready absolutely fine too, just say.

@conniptions

That's great thanks! And I'll keep you updated if either that takes off or I get something else going :-)

@unchartedworlds No worries, please do, and thank you.

BTW - hope you don't mind but I sent you an email via the Single Bass website as I have Questions in re this whole Covidcore thing, and you def know way more about it than I do.

@conniptions I am in the US and I was kind of rude to the NH Disability Rights Center last week because they sent out an email about a screening of a film that I was interested in seeing, I think it was about the genocide in Gaza but I could be confusing that with a book signing ticket I recently bought.

Anyway, I messaged them and I asked them what kind of airborne virus protections would be happening in the theater. Mandatory masks or air purifiers or anything?

They were so proud of themselves when they replied and told me that masks would be provided for anyone who wants them, that I have a permission to wear one if I want to, and they will have hand sanitizer.

Something about people telling me I’m allowed to wear a mask when I inquire about airborne virus protections really pisses me off, I don’t need permission from them to wear a mask because I’m going to do that wherever and whenever I want.

I’m sure it’s some kind of defect in my personality that makes me want to verbally punch back at people that say that stupid stuff to me.

I unsubscribed from their emails and I hope to never hear from them again. Pretending they care about disabled peoples’ rights and then inviting them to screen a movie where they tell us hand sanitizer will save us is just . . . I am done with them. Shunning commenced.

#MasksWork I am still a #novid even in the 6th year because I don’t let peer pressure ruin what bit of health I have left.

@maggiejk Yikes indeed - can't blame you at all. Here's wishing you many actual COVID cautious events in your area (and if they are music-related, please do let me know of them, as I am trying to figure out how to do this myself and want to know how others are doing it.)
@conniptions oh for sure, if I encounter any I will let you know!
@conniptions Clear the Air ATX just did a mandatory mask burlesque / variety show and they maintain a calendar of "safer" events each month. You should look into that kind of model maybe? https://deceleration.news/texas-mask-blocs-covid-19-federal-and-state-attacks/

@titania Wonderful, thank you!
@conniptions totally. The people behind it are very kind and have historically responded well to others asking them how they achieved it, so!

@conniptions i know that in vancover, the cobalt has some.... i know bc my kid is a sound tech there, so not sure the entire specs, but do know masks are mandatory and other things like that... i think that it's the organizers themselves creating the space for it...
@joyfulcarla Thank you! Looks like that's these folk: https://www.instagram.com/maskquerade.events/ - can't find any other obviously advertised as COVID cautious events at the Cobalt. If I've got the right Cobalt :)

@conniptions Just wondering is there any reason why? Or is it just personal preference?
@conniptions
Events or Festivals that are outside.
Some also have outside Toilets and Showers.

@conniptions SAME. I have had to miss so many incredible gigs (even though I live in London!!) because they’re ridiculously unsafe for an immunocompromised person, even wearing an FFP3 mask.

One of my favourite artists is playing an outdoor(!), seated(!!) gig in Cornwall in Sept and I cried tears of joy. It’ll be my first gig in 5 years. (And I’ll still wear my mask)
