#Gardening #Rhubarb #Iowa

First harvest of rhubarb! This perennial is a standard plant in midwestern gardens. I typically cook it and add enough sugar to make a tangy-sweet sauce to put on cereal or eat with yogurt. (I like rhubarb pie, but I leave the baking to the experts 🙂)

@laloica

@donray lovely! rhubarb crumble is much easier to make than rhubarb pie and imho even more delicious! (Must be served hot, with custard, of course.)

@masp

Good idea! That’s the way my mom usually served rhubarb. I could probably make a crumble.

@donray mine too, and that’s absolutely where I’m coming from :)
@donray I love rhubarb, my grandma used to make a killer rhubarb pie <3

@stfn

It is delicious I know an expert. I give her a bunch of rhubarb, and she returns some of it in the form of a pie.

@donray that is an extremely high ROI :)

@stfn

It almost seems like a scam 🙂

@donray

Rhubarb is very popular in the UK, indeed we have a 'Rhubarb Triangle' a 9-square-mile (23 km⁲) area of West Yorkshire, England
Its a very versatile crop

@donray ... Picking rhubarb with my grandmother is my earliest memory at around 2 1/2 y/o. It is still one of the most vivid memories I have, and not just the experience itself, but the adjacent smell of cooking the stalks and the pies as they cooled, to the taste of the first bite after my tiny warm slice was set in front of me.

Thank you for sparking those 70+ year old memories back to full color and for reminding me of the woman who made me who I am.

@lumiworx

You are very welcome. That’s a heartwarming memory, and I hope you still get to eat rhubarb pie once in a while.
