Finished anime: Ameku MD
We put this off for a while which was good because it allowed us to watch whole cases / arcs without waiting time.
My initial impression was that this is a classical detective story except the cases just so happen to require medical knowledge, but there was much more variety in the kinds of cases Ameku investigated. I was also positively surprised by the episode that showed her troubled about her inability to read emotions and be accordingly considerate to patients (honestly that was kind of relatable to me).
I did notice that the art quality deteriorated during the season which was a pity.
I wouldn’t need another season but think I’d watch it.

I really liked the cases because they all had something memorable.
In the old grave case it was interesting that there was no single culprit and several things just came together. I already said “oh he needed a new servant after his wife died” regarding Murota’s daughter when she was introduced and hated for it to be more true than I thought. It’s disheartening that the abuse she faced might not play much of a role in the trial against her. The motorbike move at the end was a bit ridiculous.

The mother who made her child suffer was also interesting not only because this case came back after a break. Scary to know that there are people like her.

The case with Kenta had the nice aspect of Ameku facing her shortcomings as a person (as mentioned) and I also liked that the other guys who seemed to be bullies actually regretted picking on him and tried to make up for it 🥲
Last but not least the Kuwata’s case had again a surprising outcome with there being no actual murderer but everyone assuming there was.

@yellowjitsch It’s pretty obviously based on Sherlock Holmes, and is in the vein of whodunnit/detective books/shows. A genre I’ve seen far too much of and is in general pretty tired of.

But I enjoyed this one. It has memorable characters and felt like detective lite in many ways. The pace was good and the tropes felt lighthearted. Even if the subjects had weight.

Glad they skipped the drug part of Holmes. One could argue that her trouble reading emotions could be a stand in, but I think Sherlock had plenty of things like that going apart from the drugs.
