@GlobalUrbanCosmonaut Most important one for me... Imperfect allies aren’t enemies!! Conservatives spotted this decades ago. Once you win big, you can argue about detail in implementation. Lose the big ones and the debate is pointless anyway.

@yacc143 @sunsetkindaguy @GlobalUrbanCosmonaut This is the kind of division-sowing the original post is talking about.

And to put "organize, not argue" into effect: the numbers show that the Gaza genocide issue did not ultimately tip the scale of the election. Arguing about 2024 won't bring useful outcomes for present issues. So let's focus on the now and move on.

One of the differences between the democratic left and the authoritarian right is that we do have a plurality of views.

@hisham_hm @sunsetkindaguy @GlobalUrbanCosmonaut Any sources for the that assertion that it did not tip it?

Beside the point is that it was one of the issue that contributed. Plus their proponents were usually completely closed to rational arguments, e.g. that Trump is not saviour of the Palestinians. By any measurement Trump had a way uglier approach.

It is important that the tragedy of the events and crimes does not lead to paralysis. Arguments are of course important and to be valued, but alone or at the "beer bar" they remain without evidence. Organisation is necessary - civil in associations, trade unions or even parties - always in real analogue life. The authoritarians' greatest fear is the solidarity of the masses. The "here and now" is decisive for the future.

"Imperfect Allies Aren't Enemies"

SO many people need to learn this important lesson if resistance is gonna get anywhere.

@GlobalUrbanCosmonaut don’t let perfection get in the way of progress!
11. Otters are cool

@GlobalUrbanCosmonaut
I appreciate the alt text on the image & in the post, but wish it included a little more. I wrote up alternate alt text but was foiled by the 500 char limit on a post (alt text can be 1500).

May I suggest adding the following before the list of lessons:

A poster titled '10 lessons for stronger movements' features a drawing of an otter carrying a protest sign that says β€œImperfect allies aren't enemies”.
The picture is followed by a list of nine more lessons:

@GlobalUrbanCosmonaut "Ego kills movements" every-single-movement-I've-seen
@GlobalUrbanCosmonaut Also, otters are awesome.
@GlobalUrbanCosmonaut This is an AI-generated image and a tool of the oppressors
What difference does it make to the words for you?
@GlobalUrbanCosmonaut I didn't read the words, because the obvious AI generated image was distracting. I've also seen this specific one before. https://newsocialist.org.uk/transmissions/ai-the-new-aesthetics-of-fascism/
AI: The New Aesthetics of Fascism

It's embarrassing, destructive, and looks like shit: AI-generated art is the perfect aesthetic form for the far right.

@giflian@techhub.social Thank you for your reference to this interesting article by Gareth Watkins. A significant observation, albeit somewhat over-interpreted in this Photoshop woodcut. Incidentally, I create my personal works - you can find photos of them here - without digital tools. Art is about love for morphology, mentally, materially, acoustically ... Of course, the perception of the aesthetic is still in the eye of the beholder.
