Today’s #POTA mission was to get over my key fright.
I went out into my all too familiar front yard #DE0261 Thörlspark with trails #DE0558 and #DE0622 (E1 and E9) to do a #cw-only activation.
I started with 30m to get to 10 activated bands in those three references and then went to 40m and 20m.
Thankfully most hunters were very patient with me and adjusted their keying tempo.
With a lot of `agn?` and `partial call?` I got to 12 QSOs and resisted the urge to just switch to SSB.
@dc1tc Awesome!!! That’s how it’s done!
@dc1tc yeah yeah yeah!!!!

@dc1tc Well done! Just out of interest, what was the speed of your contracts?

Asking for a friend, as they say....

@G8GDS according to RBN, I called CQ with a speed of 12-15WPM. Since I’m using a straight key the speed tends to vary a bit, especially when repeatedly calling CQ. My guess is the hunters were keying with 10-17WPM, with one exception who stayed way beyond 20WPM and gave up at some point.
@dc1tc Thanks Tobias. Reports of real world experiences like that are helpful to those of us following behind.
@G8GDS and to be clear: everyone else slowed down far enough or repeated their call often enough for me to correctly copy it and reply. There is no reason to not get on the air if you can decode and key all characters.
