#nowplaying #Soul #FalsettoFriday

If you're more or less my age, you'll be familiar with #PaulWilliams as either the ubiquitous 70s tunesmith behind hits by #TheCarpenters & the delightful #MuppetMovie soundtrack, or that odd little stringy-haired fella who'd inexplicably pop up in random #HardyBoys and #LoveBoat episodes. Today I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Paul was a better songwriter than actor. As proof, I'll offer up this overlooked #JamesBrown-produced #falsetto gem from 1975: "I Won't Last A Day Without You" by #SweetCharles. If only everyone sang Paul with such soul.

Sweet Charles – I Won't Last A Day Without You

@mrowster wait no mention or The Phantom of the Paradise!?
@fistfulofdave haha yes an oversight indeed. His Hardy Boys cameo was just a reprisal of his Phantom character, wasn't it?
@mrowster @fistfulofdave Really? Swan in the Hardy Boys?!! I gotta look into this.
@Defiance @fistfulofdave Perhaps I'm stretching things a bit? But he does sing "The Hell of It" in both.

@mrowster I don't think Swan did much singing in Phantom. But I watched that clip and first, it's just awesome on its own. Classic 70s. And he looks like Swan. I mean, it was only 3 years after Phantom, so I guess that's to be expected. And with the setting being some kind of Halloween party, it makes him look like he's doing a crossover cameo lol

@fistfulofdave

@Defiance @fistfulofdave No doubt you're correct - me I'm going on vague 45+ year old memories.

@mrowster Oh don't get me started on vagueness of memories. The older I get, the more I realize our memories are shit. Filtered in so many ways. I trust them less and less.

They're sure soothing though! 😃

@fistfulofdave

@Defiance @mrowster me and old friends arguing about what bands played with what bands in the 80s is always interesting.
@fistfulofdave @mrowster That's actually one of the main reasons I know our memories suck. I often make some claim about a show I went to back in the day and after finding the setlist I learn I was off on year, line up, opening band, etc. 😆
