Thursday - recharge with Bread and Puppet Theater at the #SomervilleMA Armory
https://artsatthearmory.org/events/bread-puppet-theater-the-obligation-to-live/
Puppet show! Puppet show! Bread & Puppet Theater is excited to announce their spring tour, traveling from #Vermont down the Eastern Seaboard. As always, the show will include #puppets large and small, music, up-to-the-minute #politics, and spectacles not to be missed. After the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books, posters, postcards, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale.

Of their latest show, The Obligation to Live, director Peter Schumann reminds us that, “The obligation to be alive and act against the actors of death is just one of humanity’s many obligations. We also have the obligation to courage and the obligation to plant garlic in the rubble of the empire. Possibilitarians know this and bring giants, dragons, horses, sheep, butterflies, and the exact dance of death required for this exact moment.”

What is this thread? Every weekend I scour a bunch of calendar listings to find events in New England that are worth the trip. I highlight Somerville Massachusetts (my home) most frequently but if it looks awesome or notable, even if its in Maine, I'll throw it in the pile.

I do this thread most weeks as a community builder here, in the hopes that you'll find something that helps you recharge your battery, cause boy howdy, this world can be cruel. Maybe you mention this thread to a neighbor or pal who isn't already fedi-enabled, and then they get on board the masto-train. Maybe the world is a little kinder because they have a social media feed that doesn't suck. idk, I'm doing this for likes and boosts, seeing how long I can keep it going organically, and meet some nice people in the process. If this thread is useful, say hi. If you've got an event you're excited about and it belongs here, let me know? Or just use the

Sat Noon - #StopCopCity: Imaginary Crimes Tour @ North American Indian Center of #Boston, 12 pm

"ATLANTA, GA — Supporters of people facing racketeering charges in Georgia for their alleged involvement in protesting #CopCity are launching a public education tour this week to draw attention to the ongoing criminal cases and increased repression against social movements. The "Stop Cop City: Imaginary Crimes" tour starts in Atlanta on April 4 and will include events in over 60 cities across the country through April and May. The tour will feature panel discussions, anti-repression resources, and merchandise. The tour also aims to provide direct support to defendants by raising morale and much-needed funds.

Dozens of people arrested at various times and locations around #Atlanta since 2021 were indicted in August 2023 under the #Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. More than 17 months later, none of the 61 people charged with #RICO have been tried."
