When the moment came, Harvard didn’t hedge or flinch—it stood up. A reminder that integrity isn’t complicated, it’s just rare.
@georgetakei Well, you need a backbone for it, don't you?

@ics @georgetakei You also need a 53 billion dollar endowment fund.

That is the sad, sad reality. It’s a lot easier to say no when you’re a billionaire.

@georgetakei I appreciate including Bezos and the law firms in there. People often say Harvard can only do it because they are rich but they aren’t Bezos rich…
@georgetakei I'm not sure why they put Bezos down there with the riffraff. He's up there on the stage with the rest of the oligarchy.
@edgeofeurope @georgetakei probably because Amazon stopped DEI after Trump announced he didn't like it.

@georgetakei

The most important word to say when dealing with MAGAs and fascists:

No.

@grheavyroller @georgetakei the second most important precedes that one, and starts with an F
@grheavyroller @georgetakei F--- off also is important.
I know this is rude but sometimes it's the only thing they understand.
@georgetakei from what I've read, sadly, Harvard had already begun quiet negotiations - but then the administration's lawyers accidentally sent an ultimatum (draft?) that went too far. If not for that ... there would have been 'compromise'

@AnnieG @georgetakei my impression was that it was a financial decision - they concluded they’d lose more income by cooperating and losing students, than by refusing which most [prospective] students prefer.

I’m glad they’re doing the right thing, but disappointed they’re doing it for the wrong reason

@ShadSterling @AnnieG @georgetakei One should remember Harvard's "Endowments" when one compares them to other oligarchs.
@Marty @AnnieG @georgetakei yeah, before their response was public I saw some speculation that they’d resist because it’s the right thing to do and they’re rich enough that they can afford to. I would have preferred that, but it’s still a good surprise that they’re resisting for any reason
@AnnieG @georgetakei Also, well before that they were compromising already by cracking down on the genocide critical encampment crowd. Yes, that was under Biden, but the appeasement had the same destination address. So yes, this 'integrity' is actually a bit complicated. Americans doing the right thing, after exhausting the alternatives...
@AnnieG @georgetakei Yaknow what? Maybe. But however it went down, they did the right thing. I'll say thank you.
@georgetakei
And it's very easy to destroy trust, but very difficult to rebuild it afterwards.
@georgetakei attacking the place where all best lawyers are "carved" is such a bad move
@georgetakei I have to hand to Harvard they are holding stronger than I thought they would. Now more need to follow harvards lead.

@georgetakei

So many enablers, just like in Nazi Germany. Pity shame does not kill.

@georgetakei

nein sagen, eine Kleinigkeit die trotzdem gelernt werden muss, egal ob für sich selber oder für die Allgemeinheit

@georgetakei More people, and institutions, and companies, should stand up to him.

@georgetakei

It helps to have a $50,000,000,000 endowment.

@georgetakei

Very rare and well, that is why Harvard has been there since 1636 and will be there when Trump is dead and gone.

Tuck Frump!

@georgetakei
#UMich is down there bowing, too.
