I never really understood the concept of Rolex watches. I mean, have you ever seen a Rolex? They're hideous!

I suppose they cost lots of money because they're a status symbol, which they are because they cost lots of money? Still strange how they got there. Why would you want to spend a 5 digit number just to show off bad taste?

@jkanev I am not a fan of their status symbol baggage and the modern references are a bit sterile stylistically compared to the vintage. But if you find all of them “hideous”, then you just don’t understand watches in general.
@ppn Just my very personal impression. To me they look like something from the 1970s, big and bulgy and showy, purposefully non-elegant. Radiating the toxic masculinity of an early James-Bond film. Which is fine with me, if someone wants to look like a pimp I'm not going to stop them, but 5,000 Euro? Seriously?
@jkanev I think you need to judge Rolex on what they also have been, not just what they had to become to be as popular as they are now. I was literally in a well known vintage shop in Tokyo yesterday. Also featured on my wrist is a 6244 from my personal collection. Not a single of these 3 are over 34mm in diameter. Rolex is more than just chunky Submariner and bedazzled Datejust everywhere.
@ppn Interesting. Yes, fair enough, that's very different from what I know.
