I've been pretty clear about my belief that electoral politics in a wholly captured free market fundamentalist oligarchy isn't going to help us stop fascism; which is why I have been devoting a lot less attention these days to election discussions. If I were to articulate an important goal for me in the field of electoral politics however it would be to ensure, by any reasonable methods whatsoever, that Gavin Newsom does not win the 2028 Democratic Party presidential nomination; because he's absolutely a type of fascist himself, and also a complete fucking dipshit who would struggle to win an election against even heinously unpopular nazis like Stephen Miller or the Trump sons.

Look, personally I think Newsom's eliminationist policies towards unhoused people in California, and his willingness to chum around with nazi Trump regime propagandists on his podcast, while agreeing they make some good points about things like trans rights, should be enough to disqualify him from political life immediately; let alone a 2028 Dem nomination run. Very Serious PeopleTM however have played these morally inexcusable activities off as savvy "realpolitik" decisions that make him an ideal candidate to stop Trumpism at the ballot box; despite the fact that no reasonable person should consider "getting elected" on a Republican platform to be any sort of "win" for people who aren't Republicans and nazis.

Personally, I have always thought that Newsom's "political instincts" are actually garbage and pretending he's a brain genius smooth political operator is basically wish-casting for bougie liberal strategists who wish Reaganism were more popular and Bill Clinton was still president. As if to prove that point, Newsom recently argued that Trump literally kidnapping and trafficking an innocent man to a slave labor prison in El Salvador was the "distraction of the day" and an "80/20" issue for Republicans; as if the installation of a fascist dictatorship and the obliteration of our constitutional rights were a debate about paper straws or which airport should be named after the Klepto Kaiser.

As this short video analysis by Francesca Fiorentini from The Bitchuation Room points out, not only is this argument callous and reactionary in nature, but all available evidence strongly suggests it's just terrible fucking politics too:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6I-SLWzGMU

Folks, I honestly couldn't give a rat's ass who wins the 2028 Democratic Party presidential nomination; I'm here to fight nazis. But for those of you who still believe stopping fascism has anything to do with electing Democrats who enable fascism, the fact that "important" people in the mainstream discourse are touting Newsom as a leading candidate for the next US presidential election should fucking alarm you. The Democratic Party just lost an election to a reality TV show nazi by appeasing fascists and running as sensible Reaganite Republicans; Gavin Newsom isn't the solution, he's the fucking problem - and if you run that stiff for President, the Democratic Party *will* fucking lose, again.

Loser Democrats Don’t Care About Trump’s Lawlessness

YouTube

Well, I guess the Reaganite wing of the Dem Party isn't going to stop declaring the best way to beat the fascists is to buck up and become more like them anytime soon, so this is a whole thing now; collaborators never sleep.

Elissa Slotkin, who is basically what would happen if the DCU's Amanda Waller took a mid-career detour to successfully run for a US Senate seat in Michigan, has been furiously working in the lab on a "brand new" way to fight Trump and the fascist GOP. Can you guess what this ex-CIA murderbot brain genius came up with? If you guessed "sacrifice marginalized people to the fascists and become more like the nazis" you can get in line to claim your gold star.

https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/24/slotkin-has-a-war-plan-to-beat-trump-dont-be-weak-and-woke-00308176

Slotkin is testing a ‘war plan’ to beat Trump. She wants Dems to ditch wokeness and muscle up

"Elissa Slotkin, the former CIA analyst turned battleground senator, will on Thursday start road-testing what she calls a “war plan” to “contain and defeat Donald Trump.”

In the first of a series of speeches about the Democratic Party’s path out of the wilderness, the Michigan senator said she will span everything from strategy to tactics and tone, acknowledging public perception of the party as “weak and woke” needs to change. She is urging Democrats to “fucking retake the flag” with appeals to voters’ sense of patriotism, to adopt “the goddamn Alpha energy” of Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell and to embrace an “airing out” of potential 2028 presidential candidates in a broadly contested primary."

As an astute observer replied to another post I made about Slotkin's plan: "anyone who says "wokeness" unironically is accepting the nazis' terms & conditions." The beauty of the fascist right's openly broadcast plan to redefine "woke" as a brand wholly separate from its traditional meaning in African American communities, is that now that "wokeness" has made its way into nazi propaganda, it means entirely different things to different demographics or groups of people. Needless to say however, a Democrat US Senator supposedly working in opposition to to the fascist Trump regime should not be talking about "ditching wokeness" at the precise time the ruling fascist party is defining caring about: constitutional rights, ICE kidnapping and attempting to deport political prisoners, and the right for trans people to exist, as "woke" - unless she *means* to imply the Democratic Party should shift rightward to mirror objectively fascist policies being enacted by that regime.

And hey, maybe that's what she does mean; Slotkin is after all a self-described Zionist who expressed support for Israel's genocidal actions in Gaza even as the ICJ was ruling they were conducting a plausible genocide of Palestinians there - so it's not like she's worried about getting a little blood on her hands. Slotkin also joined a festering cluster of Reaganite triangulators in the Democratic Party who'd like party members to stop using the word "oligarchy" because, and this is rich given the crowds folks like AOC and Bernie Sanders are attracting on their anti-oligarch speaking tour, Americans "don't know what it means."

https://www.commondreams.org/news/us-is-an-oligarchy

Slotkin Panned Online After Claiming That Voters Don't Know What 'Oligarchy' Means

"But even as evidence mounts that Americans understand that the political system has been captured by corporations and the wealthiest people—and are living their day-to-day lives with the results, including higher healthcare costs and disinvestment in public services—Slotkin told Politico on Thursday that Democrats should "stop using the term 'oligarchy,' a phrase she said doesn't resonate beyond coastal institutions."

So you got that kids? The way to beat fascism at the ballot box in elections that might literally be rigged for the nazis, is to stop fighting for the survival of marginalized people and never speak ill of the rich people that are turning your life into a dystopian sci-fi novel about emerging techno-fascism on a boiling planet.

The truth is however that there's nothing special about Slotkin, Newsom, and Emanuel; in my now forty-eight years on this Earth this is exactly how monied people in the Democratic Party have reacted to every political tremor in modern US history. When your purpose is to get paid for serving the needs of wealthy ruling class donors, your solution to every problem is always going to be shift rightward and protect rich people; they don't care at all that Trump is a fascist, just that their donor class maintains control of both major political parties in America. Which is probably why folks who think like them, have managed to lose not one but two separate elections to a reality TV show nazi oligarch whose catchphrase is literally "you're fired."

Like Newsome before her, Slotkin is peddling collaboration with a fascist as a realpolitik resistance; and she deserves the same response he got. Politely madam Senator? Go fuck yourself.

If the truth be told, I meant to share this video sometime last week, but I kinda hit a wall of exhaustion and had to book a few days off before I got around to it. As you may have heard, "Mayo" Pete Buttigieg, a likely candidate for the 2028 US Democratic Party presidential nomination and perhaps the most high-profile, openly gay politician in America, became the latest shit tier neoliberal minion to toss trans people to the wolves, amid an ongoing fascist anti-trans pogrom in America.

On the surface, it may seem odd for a gay man to find points of agreement with bigoted and invariably anti-gay fascists, on the subject of human rights for other members of the LGBTQ community, but anyone who has studied "Mayo" Pete's long career arc from intelligence minion to former US Transportation Secretary knows that tossing marginalized people under the bus for rich and often quite reactionary neoliberals is literally how Buttigieg clawed his way to a position of modest prominence in the first place. This time however, Buttigieg is looking for the biggest promotion of his entire life, and to get it, he's willing to push fascist anti-trans propaganda as an electoral strategy, and thereby aid what many educated observers say looks like the early stages of an anti-trans genocide.

Look, I think it goes without saying that Mayo Pete, and the rest of the neoliberal wingers in positions of prominence in the Democratic Party can sincerely go fuck themselves if they think helping the nazis persecute trans people is how they're going to stop Trump and his nazi regime. That's not only batshit crazy, but profoundly fascist in its own right. I don't vote for fascists willing to let other fascists kill me, and I don't imagine very many other queer people in America feel differently. What folks like Buttigieg, Gavin Newsom, and the desiccating political corpse of Rahm Emanuel are doing right now, goes far beyond the already cowardly and unacceptable shitlib strategy of refusing to talk about trans rights while a fascist regime is busy stripping them, and enters directly into a type of open collaboration with a fascist anti-trans pogrom in progress; a pogrom which may well end in the mass institutionalization, or murder, of trans Americans. Quite frankly, I don't think the LGBTQ TikTokers in the video go far enough in torching Buttigieg for his betrayal of not just trans people, but antifascists in general, given the potential cost (in lives) of his cynical political maneuvers here.

Crucially however, I would like to highlight host Mike Figueredo's discussion about the increasingly open, and virulent straight of anti-trans ideas and talking points, growing out of the "centrist" (right wing) leadership of the Democratic Party. The reality is that folks like Buttigieg, Newsom, and US Senator Elissa Slotkin aren't just spouting their own bigotry here. Due to various leaks and public statements, we already know that this "shift" in strategy on trans rights is an intentional policy platform plank for a neoliberal wing that still controls the Democratic Party, and are actively purging left wing and labor class influences from the internal party committees to give their objectively right-wing candidates, home field advantage in the upcoming primary cycles for 2028; including of course, the Democratic Party's next presidential nominee.

If you want my opinion, I don't really think it's an accident that all the centrist "Blue Dog" Democrats are talking about a need to throw trans people, particularly young trans girl athletes, to the fascist wolves. This faction inside the party has already unrolled their economic agenda, pitched under the idea of creating "Abundance" and their promise of *checks notes* Reaganite deregulation and trickle-down economics landed like a lead brick going through a glass window with voters who know those very same policies have created the nightmare hellworld we're living in now. They can't win on policy, so they intend to try and bribe voters with literal fucking transphobia. If that doesn't say "we have nothing to offer the labor class, not even an alternative to fascism" then I don't know what will.

LGBTQ+ TikTokers DRAG Pete Buttigieg for Throwing Trans People Under a Bus

"Pete Buttigieg is the latest Democratic politician to throw trans people under a bus to further his political ambitions. It’s particularly egregious for the fact that Buttigieg is the most prominent openly gay politician in America, which makes his normalization of anti-trans talking points uniquely dangerous. Fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community, however, responded to Pete’s cynical pivot… and they were not happy. In this video we’ll talk about Buttigieg’s dangerous rhetoric, the blowback he got from queer TikTokers, and address the growing anti-trans trend emerging in the Democratic Party among 2028 presidential hopefuls."

@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes So, another gay man willing to sacrifice the trans people for his personal agenda believing that this way he can survive fascism...

Why am I not surprised at all?

@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes From what I've gleaned so far, it sounds to me like he's calling for an informed, nuanced approach to the issue, and to people's concerns around it. I think in a large democratic society, that's pretty much what you HAVE to do, if you want to see progress.

Otherwise, we all just take turns clubbing each other and seeing who wins, which I find difficult to distinguish, qualitatively, from how we lived 20,000 years ago. I'd like to think we're better than that by now.

@wesdym

A) Didn't you just get told to fuck off on my other account?

B) Eat shit you maggot collaborator transphobic trashfire of a human being.

C) Fuck off. Do not come back.

@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes

1) I'm trans, and a live-long activist. But I'm also a grown-up, so that might confuse you.

2) Reported.

@wesdym lmfaoooo lib moment

@ottercynical Sure are a lot of tragically immature people here.

If you want things to be better, YOU have to be better.

@wesdym

I dont know if you knew but "Informed" and "Nuanced" are not words that work in a fascist country.

@haui Sure. Thanks for your intelligent, mature, useful input.
@wesdym So you're denying that the US is a fascist failed state and instead attack people who call you out on it?
@haui Please grow up already.
@[email protected] Could you possibly be more boring and pointless?
@wesdym @AnarchoNinaAnalyzes
That's s not how we lived 20000 years ago. Prehistoric cultures were mostly collabrative & only became competitive in times of scarcity (natural disasters, regional environmental shifts, etc.) however since the advent of civilization we have had a class of people with the ability to create artificial scarcity by hording wealth & rescources. Even then everybody would gang up & dipose of leaders trying to rule through strength. It's manipulation that makes despots.
@duckwhistle Okay, Guy Who Can't Write Like a Sober, Educated Grown-Up, whatever you say. Thanks for ignoring my question and trying to prove to everyone that you think you know everything. Have a nice day.

@wesdym @duckwhistle

"Thanks for ignoring my question..."

What question?

"Otherwise, we all just take turns clubbing each other and seeing who wins, which I find difficult to distinguish, qualitatively, from how we lived 20,000 years ago. I'd like to think we're better than that by now."

Do you have anything substantial to support this assertion? I mean aside from a stale old dis-proven false narrative (exemplified by Hobbes's war of “everyone against everyone”) that's long been used to justify hierarchy, colonialism, oppression, slavery and genocide.

The real story is far more complex and nuanced:

Appendix 5: More discoveries challenging conventional ideas about human cultural evolution A groundbreaking study published in the journal PNAS is overturning traditional wisdom regarding the origins and inevitability of wealth inequality. Based on a massive dataset of over 50,000 houses in some 1,000 archaeological sites worldwide, the study suggests that economic inequality is not an inevitable result of societal advancement, agriculture, or population. @RD4Anarchy I'm sure you will not understand why I'm muting you for 30 days, but I'm not sure it matters.

@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes
There is a Tumblr post from some years ago which immediately sprang back to the forefront of my mind, because it's relevant and, ultimately, seems to come up every time a rich (usually but not always white, because wealth in the US, Canada and GB are functionally tied to a lack of melanin) gay guy decides to put money and institutional cachet ahead of basic human decency and the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community.

It's titled "Pete Buttigieg is just a faggot." And if the title throws you off at first, that's understandable, but that's not the author's view of Pete Buttigieg. It's the author's very accurate and piercing impression of what the conservatives think of him, of what the fascists believe him to be, of what the people who want us dead will always carry as a reason to want him dead, too.

"Just a faggot."

And with him throwing trans folks under the bus, Mayo Pete gets another distinction, not from the murderous fucktards scything through their own tendons in an effort to get at people who just want to be left alone, but from those people who are now watching him abandon us to the rabid pit bulls.

Quisling. He's just a quisling. And that's all he'll ever be. But unlike the fascists, we don't want to kill him for it. We just won't be inviting him to our birthday parties. We don't like you any more, Mayo Pete. You aren't our kind of guy anymore. They're coming for you, and we'll still try a little to protect you as a decent human being would, but because we know that you wouldn't do the same for us, we might be forgiven for trying a lot less hard.

Kind of an important difference, wouldn't you say? If you stop sucking up to the Orange Hitler Party, they'll want you shot dead. If you stop advocating for us, we'll just sigh and chalk you up as one more fair-weather ally, to be voted out and forgotten.

@theogrin Obviously I agree with your overall conclusion re: Mayo Pete, I just wanted to thank you for sharing the essay - I don't always have time to click on everything people share with me in the replies, but I read this and enjoyed it a lot. Thank you.
@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes It is amazing to me that these people can talk about not being weak at the same time they prepare to throw people under the bus. Like, I'm tired of weak-ass Dems, but that's the exactly the sort of behaviour I mean. Literally just be the party of principles and you would get the votes.
@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes Goof Troop >>>>> SpookTroop no matter the intellectual venue
@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes Well actually…this is exactly right. The Democrats don’t need to pivot to the “center”. They must admit that the game has changed so much that they can’t win. Something Else has to arise from this mess.
@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes If you already enjoy double-cream unpasteurised (but definitely homogenised) fascism, why would you switch to the soy equivalent?
@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes what's the difference who is the white house if the government listens to the labor unions and does what they want? Unionization of workplaces is much more important than some elections
@alihan_banan @AnarchoNinaAnalyzes Both are important. Since UAW went all in for Trump, I’d rather no Republican held power for unions to bend the knee to.

@Vorsos @alihan_banan Fwiw, and I to be clear Vorsos, I'm not mad or anything - you've been kicking around my mentions long enough to know where I'm coming from. But if this is going to turn into a long discussion about voting can y'all untag me for the rest of it?

I'm not doing it, I don't want to argue about it, and I honestly write very little about electoral politics these days because I don't want to waste my time arguing about it. I just wrote about Newsom because he's a horrible person who is bad at his job and will lose if he runs.

But I'm not signing up for "why you should/shouldn't vote" - I don't care, and I'm not doing it, so I've absolutely moved on.

No offense intended. I just don't wanna do it and don't need to be here if you two do.

@AnarchoNinaAnalyzes @Vorsos i'm glad that you mean no offense, shows that you are a good person 🫶
