François #Bayrou is the current Prime Minister of #France.

In 1996, violence was denounced in the elite catholic school of his constituency. He made an official visit as both the then Minister of National Education and a member of the National Assembly for a seat in Béarn (the province of the school). He told the regional press: "The people of Béarn felt these attacks with a sense of pain and a sense of injustice. […] All the checks were favourable and positive."

The director of the institution, Pierre Silviet-Carricart, has been charged of the case of sexual assault. François Bayrou asked the investigating judge for a meeting at his place. The discussion was around the risks for the Bayrous' son, then a student at the boarding school. François Bayrou's wife attended the director's funeral in 2000.

At Parliament, on 11th February 2025, François Bayrou was representing the government for the weekly question-and-answer session. When asked about #Bétharram, he stated before the National Assembly that he had "never been informed of any violence, and even less of sexual violence".

It is difficult to accept that incest is the banal act of a completely ordinary person; and that it constitutes a genealogical crime, a specific form of child abuse (with control).
The impossibility of seeing incest as a criminal sexual practice was remarkably demonstrated in an ethnographic study carried out by Léonore Le Caisne in the provincial village where the Lydia Guardo case took place.
The villagers perceived the Guardos as completely ordinary, a family like any other, with a hard-working father who was respected and looked on kindly, even though he did not hide his paternity from the villagers, shopkeepers and institutions. For the villagers, bound together by gossip, incest was a banal matter of procreation between a man and his daughter: ‘he was making children to his daughter’. They failed to see the asymmetrical relationship of kinship and age that constitutes this paternal incest: behind the gossip, the criminal practice of incest was passed over in silence

Incest is settled by a perverse disconnect between words and deeds.
According to Cécile Cée, ‘the situation does not depend on what the victim has to say about it, but on what society should say about it’ (p. 181). Once the act of naming is not:
* the result of interpersonal negotiation (to what extent may I call incest what the victim does not designate as such?),
* but rather a collective statement (‘It is up to society, to third parties, to you, to enunciate,’ p. 182), which alone can ‘put the world back the right way up’ (p. 227),
* then we move away from individual conscience and into the realm of social and political ethical responsibility.
