Going on a riot tomorrow?

oh you thought you were going on a protest?

tough. the state decides if it is a protest or a riot based on the powers they wish to use/desire to escalate violence.

be as "peaceful" as you like, it doesn't matter

here's some stuff to do to make it more difficult for the state to persecute you.

get a phone number from this list and consign it to memory (you can cheat and write it on your body)

read this guide:
https://greenandblackcross.org/about/

print some bust cards for you and your pals:
https://www.libertyhumanrights.org.uk/advice_information/protest-bust-cards-with-translations/

other great bits of advice:
go and leave in a group
don't tell the general public (such as mastodon) you are going
leave your state surveillance devices at home
don't photograph people's faces
don't publish photos of people's faces
don't boost photos of people's faces when you get back
cover your face, scarf that covers the jawline and a hat for your hairline, not just a face cover thanks

don't forget even though tomorrow is saturday, it's #ShutTheFuckUpFriday all day.

chip in with anything i'm forgetting

#BoostsWelcome #UKPol #Trans

if black bloc decide they want to smash stuff up let them get on with it. act like they're not there

don't sign any SWP petitions or carry any SWP placards

don't boast about anything you did

plain attire

cover up your tattoos

you will be protesting alongside people who could be exiled from their homes in the UK just for being seen. you might not think your opsec is necessary for you, but that's not the point. the harder you make the sate work the more you protect your comrades.

BTP indicated they will be exercising their new powers to indiscriminately strip search women. I can't imagine the MET are going to be any different.

I don't have anything practical to say about this. Just giving you a heads up.

if you want me to boost your photies from the demo you'd better blur those faces πŸ˜ΎπŸ‘Š

not relating to protest safety but good advice for why we are fighting.

A British Court Of Law Is Not A Place Of Justice

the whole world knows it
the birmingham 6
the guildford 4
the shrewsbury 3
the families of the hillsborough 97
april ashley
the tolpuddle martyrs
andrew holland
everyone.

in fighting against the injustice of the british judicial system you are walking in the footsteps of many others and you are wholly justified in recognising british judges are neither wise nor just.

@floppyplopper on top of "leaving as a group" maybe go somewhere safe together (or in smaller groups) like someone's home.
Eat some food with people and do other chill activities to cool down.

That help to deal with adrenaline withdrawl and the stress build up during the day.

Have friend(s) check on you at a set time in the evening if the above is not an option, especially if going back to an empty home.

@floppyplopper although some guides suggest carrying an older SMS/calls only "burner" phone - old bill in larger cities actively check for these (they don't always need to physically search as they can use stingrays and other such kit to identify them) as part of surveillance on those selling hard drugs, and this is well resourced (also a lot of these devices simply won't work in some areas as older networks are shut off)
@vfrmedia
can they still be detected with stingrays etc if you've taken the battery out?
@floppyplopper turning off the power before taking the battery out will send a signal to the base station to release the cell - abruptly removing the battery is likely to make the base station assume the device is still there until a timeout occurs - the network will still have the time and date stamp and location of *where* the battery was removed..

@floppyplopper *any* mobile phone connected to the network will *always* divulge your approximate location, accurate to maybe 50-100m in town and 2km in the countryside.

This isn't even directly intended as a surveillance method (although its been used for this purpose by authorities for 40 years), its a vital part of how a cellular mobile phone network operates and seamlessly keeps working whilst you are moving around..

@vfrmedia @floppyplopper So if you have a burner phone NEVER power it up anywhere near your home. Buy it, configure it and use it only where protest takes place. Battery out otherwise.

Unfortunately things like burners are very difficult (if not impossible) in Australia because lots of id ("100 points") is needed to activate any SIM even prepaid. That's why telco data breaches are so devastating here.

@floppyplopper

Carry water. Wear stout shoes. For the love of all that is holy please do these two things.

Please consider not taking drugs while on a demo. I don't mean don't take your meds. I mean don't turn up on ket or coke or something. You will be a net detriment to the cause.

@passenger
any suggestions for femme yet practical shoes are welcome. got to stay hydrated though, if the filth kettle you you might be there a while.
