I'm going from memory, this was from the end of the David Miller era (long time ago now), but I remembered their argument was they wanted to use the LRT lanes as a way to bypass traffic in emergencies, because passenger vehicles wouldn't be able to move aside on what remained of the roadway.
Could have been where the "war on cars" started? Again, long time ago now
@gabriel @tinker well it's great!
In a good social media world, people who make design decisions in city planning like this would all have feeds that showcase what other people are doing in other places around the world. Shovel ready ideas as @pluralistic says
cc @seabikeblog @citynerd any idea who's likely responsible for this type of planning in #Seattle?
@tinker Don't go thinking the whole city is like this!
That's a section, a few streets, just all.
BCN is not that big a city compared to some other big cities, but like all, different neighbourhoods have a complete different look and feel
@Johns_priv - Of course.
But we can celebrate the sections that are nice with the hope and goals that what works in those sections can be applied more broadly, both in BCN and more broadly in the world.
@tinker
This image of a tram in Barcelona is not representative of the city.
Despite some improvements in mobility (+ bicycle lanes and extension of the existing tramway line), Barcelona has a lot of air pollution, noise, social inequalities (renting and/or buying flats at abusive prices), to mention just a few.
High population density and excessive tourism saturate coexistence.
Greetings,
PS: Beteve is the official TV channel of Barcelona City Council.
